I happened to hear a part of a Hillary speech on TV yesterday as I was out doing laundry. She was making a list of her campaign promises.... raise min wage, free college, expand obamacare, etc. Lots of lofty "promises" we are used to hearing from politicians every time they campaign. So I think, "wow, that's really impressive." I don't mean that I agree or disagree with whether or not those things are a good idea, but that there were so many big promises.

Then the obvious thought crosses my mind. She the most establishment Democratic candidate, basically a third Obama term. So why would anyone expect her to accomplish much of anything, if they weren't accomplished already by Obama in the last 8 years? This is not to start the usual, "it's because of the Republicans" response. It's just a real practical question, that should be crossing the minds of anyone listening to her list of promises. It seems a vote for Hillary is a vote for nothing different.

You should change the title to "How can any candidate's campaign promises be taken seriously"?

I'm not sure who you were listening to but Hillary is not promising "free college." She has a plan calling for debt-free public college, so that students aren't saddled with high student loans. But families are expected to contribute what they can using reasonable and realistic assessments, and students are expected to put in work study hours to help pay for it.

Will she get every single thing she wants to do accomplished? Mostly that will depend on what kind of Congress gets elected, of course. But her plans are detailed and include explanation of where the funding comes from. But no politician has direct, personal control over this, so why you ask the question only about Hillary is confusing.

Heres the deal-
Nearly everything Trump is promising is about wealth creation (trade deals in our favor, ditch the TPP et al)

Hillary on the other hand, makes promises that will rape the US taxpayer for billions every year.

It is sheer lunacy that anyone would support this GD woman

Free college is just grades 13-16. Just what this country needs...more entitled millennials delaying the process of adulthood and responsibilities.

Paid college, with sacrifices, is what separates workers form slackers. sheesh.

Did we forget, "13 Minutes of Hillary Lying":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dY77j6uBHI

Expecting a pathological liar to deliver on the promises they make......... She was trying to win and, as we know, the Clintons will do or say anything to win.

Dems had control of Congress for 2 years with Obama. This is my exact point. Did the Dems actually want to accomplish much then, when conditions were the most ideal? I don't see why a do over with Hillary would be any different.
