Republicans are apparently attempting to make their fear-mongering a self-fulfilling prophesy and take guns from those who've committed no crime.

It makes me wonder if Trump is trying to lose support from his base, because this will do it.
You think Trump's base aren't able to compartmentalize their thinking already?

It should be about what is best for Americans and our children. If Donald Trump can find a way to get NRA and Republicans to finally come around to stricter gun control, why not just be happy? Why turn in into a freaking war between who is smarter and who is clueless. Everyone needs to get off their collective high horses and take a good look in the mirror.
Read some of the posts (there are endless examples) of trump supporters against others trying to 'find a way' and get back to us. The hypocrisy is astounding.

Does the NRA have to approve of Congress passing stronger background check laws in general, or is this something Congress can do on their own?

Trump to meet NRA about banning gun sales for terror list | TheHill

Donald's tweet,
I will be meeting with the NRA, who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns.
This is political pandering at it's worst and an insincere attempt by Donald to look like he wants to do something about the problem. He really just wants to save his flailing and failing presidential bid. First of all why does he have to go hat in hand to the NRA?, and who elected the NRA to anything?

If he were really serious, as the now leader, of the repub party, he would go up to Capitol Hill and demand that Mitch and Paul put their butts in gear and put legislation forth to deal with the problem. If either one of them would bring forth a Bill, prohibiting gun sales to those on a no fly/terrorist list and work with Democrats it would pass in about 5 minutes, and get BO's signature in a flash.

That's the way to deal with the problem not this clown show he is about to have with the NRA. If the NRA didn't change their position but instead doubled down, on their hard line, after those precious innocent children in the Connecticut got gunned down in cold blood, what makes anyone think they'll do something now? They won't and if Donald is serious I've just told him what to do.

But he's not serious and he won't - pitiful pandering is all this is.

Yes. Just as it was when Obama tried to push it only to be blocked by Republicans in congress.

Yeah, sometimes I have to wonder if most members of Congress have to get NRA permission before they can use the restroom.

and when is he having this meeting? Do you really think it will take place? He tweets all kinds of things, so who knows? And do you really think this will mean anything to NRA? Of course they endorsed him, who else would they endorse?

I'm confused about how asking the NRA's permission regarding gun laws fits with Trump's earlier statements regarding lobbyists.

Doesn't this meeting directly conflict with his policy? Even if he doesn't take money from them (though we don't know that he hasn't) what difference does it make if it is a quid pro quo deal?

Why wouldn't the NRA expect favors if this meeting resulted in the NRA 'allowing' Congress to pass this law, and it helped Trump in the election?

Would Hillary sign a bill that prohibited people being investigated by the FBI from buying guns and running for president? Serious question. Or is her candidacy more important to her than a way she thinks will save lives?
