I love my Mom. Great lady. She's of totally sound mind (amazingly so). She's a pretty sharp person.
But let's just say that she, and people like her, are keeping lots of political-class operatives in the gravy this year. She's buying EVERYTHING they're selling in 2016!
Tonight, rather than just tease her about Trump (who I like and she absolutely detests), I actually picked her brain a bit. Here's some of what she said about him (quotes are actual):
First and foremost, "he ruined Marla Maples". This has been a sore spot for Mom for years. I don't even know what to think about this....I guess he did??? Who knows.
Second, he is "just like Milosevic". (When I said that's not really fair, she said, "don't worry, nobody even knows who he is".??). She says Trump is the reason America is just like 1933 Nazi Germany now.
Third, "he crushed a lot of people" in his rise to the top of his career. She doesn't know who, but she is CERTAIN of this.
Fourth, his children "are all terrified of him."
Fifth, he is very uncivilized.
Sixth, he has a big head and white areas around his eyes (she told me her theory about where they come from, but I can't remember what she said).
Seventh, he is SO devious that he chose Pence, who is someone right up my mom's alley. A sneaky move.
Eighth, he has many factories in Mexico (making his clothes), so "how could he ever make Mexico build a wall?? How could he keep paying all those poor Mexicans fifty cents a day to make his clothes??"
Ninth, he would immediately get us into World War 3.
Which leads to the sad part: my Mom is not a fearful person, but she is absolutely terrified of a Trump presidency. She has been picking up little snippets about him from the media...the usual drumbeat from the Dems and their media allies (BUT she is sure that there is nobody out there in the political field or in the media who is pushing any kind of anti-Trump message or trying to convince people to have a negative view of him; "they didn't even think he was going to get very far!!"... I guess to her that means that if you haven't started a negative campaign against someone by January, it's too late and you just have to skip ever doing it).
She tends to read our little local leftist daily, and watches CBS Evening News. That's mostly it.
And now she has added what she's "heard" about Trump this year to her longstanding antipathy against him (which we never really did get to the bottom of).
She promised me that NOTHING I or any one else could ever tell her would ever make her change her opinion of Trump in the slightest.
Hillary is hoping that there are a lot of people like her....
I agree with other posters at the beginning of the thread. She does sound like a smart woman.
I do think that Trump was bad for Marla Maples and I thought that their child - Tiffany was the best of all his kids at the RNC probably because she didn't grow up with him as much as the others. She was much more personable and decent sounding versus his other kids IMO. Maybe that has to do with what your mom said in that the kids are terrified of him. FWIW, I think Melania is also terrified of him.
I also think Pence was a poor choice, but I understand why he chose Pence. Pence seems like a rather hateful person IMO (I think Trump chose him due to him being religious though).
I agree with mom about Mexico and his Mexican goods and Mexico not paying for a wall to get built lol.
I also agree he is hot headed and would get us into some new war.
I also agree that he is one of the main reasons why Americans are speaking Nazi-ish in regards Muslims especially today.
And you may not know about them but he has crushed a lot of people in the business world. You can look at the Trump University victims for proof of this and the people who he got imminent domain for to build casinos and the construction companies he didn't pay for the casinos and other properties he built. He also discriminated against minorities in NYC whereas he wouldn't rent to them in his properties. He has crushed a lot of people.
FWIW, I am also afraid of him becoming president, mostly due to him being hot headed and starting a war. I don't trust him as head of our military. I also don't trust him to pick SCOTUS judges and I don't trust he knows anything about government at all or how it runs/works.
ETA: I am not a liberal or a democrat either, I'm an independent and I honestly don't see what any of you actually see in him.

Your mom probably is just making up stuff to avoid the subject. She probably knows she raised a jerk and decided years ago talking to you about her views and opinions was futile. That's my mom's response to her stupid son.
BTW, stupidity does not come with age. Anybody stupid at 80 was stupid at 29.
If you just listen to her, she is putting forth the most basic conservative talking points - family values, morality, and character. She is effectively saying that Trump fails in all those values that are important to her.
You know what? She has a point. If the GOP had nominated someone with character, moral and family values; they probably won't be in such a depressing place right now.

Well, that's the thing. She has always had one issue stand out far, far above all others.....abortion. Rabidly anti-abortion. An activist.
She says she might vote for Hillary. When I pointed out the abortion thing, she just got kind of quiet. Said she might not vote.
