You people are so funny. Republicans have been told to lie on these polls to throw the Democrats off. Let them keep thinking they are winning. The poll that counts will be election day.

It's still a bit early ... although I honestly believe that by today (now that the conventions are over) about 85% of the American voters have made up their minds.
Hillary is ahead of Trump. That is today.
Neither of the candidates is demolishing the other by, say, 15 or 20 points.
Online polls only reflect what those who visit that particular website think.
Many research companies use panels developed over the many years (now) that online polling/surveying has existed.
This is no different than the panels that were developed for phone interviewing 50-60 years ago.
Yes, many online surveys are simple pop-ups that ask for input from anyone that visits a given site.
But the majority that are used for polling, and for actual well-designed market research studies, use targeted sample that is no different from the sample used for landline/cell phone surveys.
In many cases, they use the same exact sample if they have available email addresses for those respondents.
There are any number of white papers that have been written in the last twenty years that detail how and why online surveying is as reliable as phone interviewing.
Wanting to dismiss all online polls as worthless is just so much wishful thinking.

This comment may explain why you are so confused about online polling. Online polls from Ipsos etc are not just polls people click on a website. They are conducted just like telephone polls, only using email as the contact method and the interview is conducted on the internet. They are NOT the same thing as polls on CD or the CNN website.
