True, maybe.

Who comprises this committee? Are they party people or were they swept in by Trump's nomination? If they are Trump people, holy cow, that could be a bloody mess! If they are party people, they might be able to get their act together. But the candidates you mention got nowhere in the primaries -- what makes you think their viable to the GOP today, apart from the fact the someone has to take the arrows of the mojo'ed, mighty Dems? I mean, someone voted for Trump, and those "someones" ARE the Republican voters... if they wanted Cruz or Rubio or others, they had every opportunity in the primaries to nominate them, but they didn't...

That depends on how pissed the Trump supporters would be. Many of them hate all the other Republican candidates and would probably stay home.

If Trump drops out theres going to be a lot of peeved off Trump supporters,if he did drop out what a colossal slap in the face to all those who supported and voted for him and also a colossal slap in the face to the American democratic system,IMO if he did cop out it would effectively destroy the Republican party.
I cant believe even Trump could sink so low to back out at this point..

What would happen if Donald Trump dropped out of the race?

the vacuum that would result would be enough to dislodge a fairly moderate sized piece of lint

There are 2 procedural options:

1. The Party Chair calls a meeting of the National Committee, and the 168-member committee members would vote to fill the vacancy on the ticket. (A candidate must receive a majority of the votes to win the party's nomination.)

or 2. The RNC can reconvene the national convention “for the purpose of filling any such vacancies.â€

Trump would have to opt out of the race by early September ( a month from now) for someone else to be on the ballot in enough states to win.

Trump is not going to drop out nor will he be forced out. Hillary would still have a battle on her hands, so even this won't take the pressure off her.

Smart!

C'mon, his behavior is so erratic that some city, county or state mental health department -- the guys with the white lab coats -- are likely to swoop down at any moment with butterfly nets and take him to a place where he can do himself no harm! The man is certifiable and probably has been for years.

Question:

If Trump takes a dump... Would Pence be flushed too? I would think not since he was officially voted in as party VP. Would whoever was selected as Pres Candidate have to accept Pence?
