Many people are saying Trump wants to drop Pence from the ticket and go with someone more his style. Many people have said Pence was really picked by Trumps kids as a way to balance out Trumps unconventional style and bring in more traditional conservatives. Now that he is turning away from his attempt to be more presidential and cater to the establishment, he likely wants to a VP that is more in line with the alt-right and the Breitbart way of politics. But according to RNC rules and presidential election rules can he actually do it?

McGovern dropped Eagleton from the ticket so I guess the answer is probably yes.

Technically Eagleton withdrew.

As to the original premise:

Oh FFS. Where do you guys get this crap?

I haven't seen anything indicating that Trump wants to drop Pence from the ticket. It appears to be a solid choice that most are happy enough with. I am sure there was a compromise with the party leaders also on who they would be happy with.

Pence will be an asset to the ticket and make a pretty good VP under President Trump!

Acme rumor generator. Only available by mail order. You supply hot air, innuendo and suspicion, give the rope a good yank and it spits out all sorts of stuff.

"Many people are saying... " "Many people have said... " Gee, where have we heard that before?

"Many people are saying" is Trumpspeak for "Someone just made up some crap so they could spread unfounded rumors to stir the pot and see how people react to it."

Technically, no.

Trump cannot unilaterally drop Pence. That is the RNC's call. But practically, if Trump wanted to replace Pence, the RNC would have to decide whether or not it wanted to suffer the damage of the replacement (which would be considerable) or to deal with whatever Trump would do in retaliation if he didn't get his way. Actually, if things had gotten so bad that such a situation developed, Pence would probably withdraw of his own volition and wash his hands of the entire disaster.

My guess is that the RNC would probably let Trump have his way, including naming the replacemen. But ultimately, it is their call and not his.
