I hope he did.
It makes sense to be very skeptical anytime Trump claims he is making donations to a cause or organization, because he's had a history of "big talk, no action" on charity. He pretty much had to be shamed into putting the money he promised to veterans' groups after he pulled out of a debate date a few months ago in the primary.

He's also a relative miser when it comes to charitable giving historically.

Time will tell.
I think that when the President shows up with a convoy of relief trucks in his wake, just when relief is most needed after the event has just ended, he will make a more lasting impression than a short pit stop by a losing candidate.

Folks haven't forgotten Bush's fly-over during Katrina. A personal appearance doesn't count for much unless big immediate help follows it. Nothing came afterward from the Bush administration, and people continued to die slowly.

Obama knows that very well; that, in part, was what won him the 2012 election, when late-season hurricane Sandy devastated the New York city metro. Mitt showed up earlier than Obama in that one, but he came with a couple of truckloads of water. Obama came with the full resources of FEMA with him and put those resources to full use fast.

I'm sure voters have not forgotten either of those calamities. First at the scene doesn't matter nearly as much as when the appearance brings a lot of real help with it.

The Family Research Council? The most bigoted organization pretty much ever? Man, he sure knows how to pick them.

The FRC is listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an extremist hate group for its militant anti-LGBT stance.

So, yes, he made a donation. Directly to a social conservative church/organization that was impacted by the flooding. The entire tour was actually setup by Tony Perkins and the governor had no fore-knowledge of his visit. From all accounts I have read, all of the people that Trump interacted with were selected members of the church. It was a completely staged event from beginning to end that targeted a social conservative group whose support Trump needs.
Now that Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee are fading away into obscurity, Tony Perkins is the most despised person in the LGBT community.

I guess Donald has written off the LGBT vote.

He's given more to charities and everyday people over the years than any Democrat or Republican ever has. The Clintons steal money from impoverished people they claim to be helping, ask the Haitians.

So let's clear it up:

TRUMP DID DONATE AND PAY FOR THE TRUCKLOAD OF SUPPLIES INTENDED TO HELP PEOPLE IN LOUISIANA.

Thanks.
There was confusion because the local government had no record of it. They had no record of it because the donation went directly to the church. You may want to avoid the bigger discussion point, but I think it is of material interest that he targeted his donation to a specific group that supports him and not the people of Louisiana in general.

Clinton has donated far more than Trump has. Also, like Trump the vast majority of that giving went through their own foundation. Heck, Trump has given MORE money to the Clinton Foundation than he did to veterans until he was called out on his BS...

In May, under pressure from the news media, Donald Trump made good on a pledge he made four months earlier: He gave $1 million to a nonprofit group helping veterans’ families.

Before that, however, when was the last time that Trump had given any of his own money to a charity?

If Trump stands by his promises, such donations should be occurring all the time. In the 15 years prior to the veterans donation, Trump promised to donate earnings from a wide variety of his moneymaking enterprises: “The Apprentice.” Trump Vodka. Trump University. A book. Another book. If he had honored all those pledges, Trump’s gifts to charity would have topped $8.5 million.

But in the 15 years prior to the veterans’ gift, public records show that Trump donated about $2.8 million through a foundation set up to give his money away — less than a third of the pledged amount — and nothing since 2009. Records show Trump has given nothing to his foundation since 2008.
Until May when he was forced to make the million dollar donation, he has donated less than $10,000 to charity over the past seven years. The amount he has given away is less than a third of what he promised.

Some of that money for veterans that was finally cajoled out of Trump...

So does Trump. Virtually all of his charitable giving is routed through his own foundation.
