Basically what this election is all about, when we boil it down.

The Supreme Court is the prize.

Yep.

It will determine whether we progress to the future or head back to the past.

GOP is so determined to block the future, they've already announced that if their candidate doesn't win, they will block every nomination until they can get a presidential candidate who can win. I'm not kidding.

Based on the collection of vulture capitalists and deranged individuals they've tried to foist on America the last few go rounds, one wonders whether they got anyone on the bench who can do it.

This is true, but the "GOP" is pretty much dead and gone at this point. The obstructionists are the Radical Right as personified by the Trumpists, the Tea Party and the Alt-Right. Here's one thing to consider; most of these people that are in favor of regression are in the last third of their life span. The Millenials reject their dark negative view of the world - in 10-20 years you are going to see a big swing toward progressive direction. So that blocking strategy will probably backfire on them. They might do worse than compromising today on one of these nominations, because they could end up with judges every further to the left in the SCOTUS.
