It's wrong if certain groups get more time than legally allowed. What do you see as controversial here?
What's controversial is that the Republican GOP Chairman of Nevada didn't bother to include the fact that the polls were kept open because there were people waiting in line to vote at 7:00 PM when the polls normally close. Clark County Official: Nothing wrong in keeping early vote site open late
If you stood in line for hours to vote, but were turned away because just as you got to the front of the line, the clock struck 7:00 PM and the polling officials closed the voting, would you be OK with that?
And frankly, the Nevada GOP chairman reveals himself as a bigoted slime ball by saying that 'certain groups' got more time to vote.
Turnout was historically high at this polling place, and a GOP official complained that "certain groups" got too much time to vote
It's well known that white Republicans have made a coordinated effort nationally to make it as hard as possible for people of color to vote. Cutting early voting hours, reducing the number of polling places in minority districts to increase lines, voter ID, purging voters rolls, etc.
They know that people of color overwhelmingly vote D, so the extent to which they can succeed at suppressing turnout of these people it benefits them.
So why DID they keep the polls open past their usual closing time?

Did you research the rules are before you made this statement?
I have heard for decades that if people are ALREADY IN LINE before closing time they get to vote. We had people voting at 11:59 pm in 2012 here in Miami Dade on election day. Where were you 4 years ago?
The chairman, Michael McDonald, was referring to a polling location in Clark County, which is 30% Hispanic and the county in which Las Vegas is located. The polling location stayed open to allow voters who were already in line -- many of whom waited more than two hours, according to local reports -- to cast their ballots.
Dan Kulin, a spokesperson for the county, said no early no early voting stations extended their closing times. They did, however, process voters who were in line at closing time to allow as many people to vote as possible.
The latest vote was cast at 10:10 p.m. at Silverado Ranch, which closed at 8 p.m. and had been experiencing about a two-hour delay when CNN visited the station.
So why DID they keep the polls open past their usual closing time?

If you are in a retail store and are still on line waiting to pay past closing time due to excessively long lines, would you expect the store to kick you out before you had a chance to complete your purchase? A no brainer.
It's wrong if certain groups get more time than legally allowed. What do you see as controversial here?
I'll tell you exactly what's controversial about it. Arizona as an example. For this years primaries instead of 200 polling places in Maracopa county, the republican controlled state controller only put out 60. This resulted in many people waiting 7 hours or more in line to vote.
Your dog whistle is that Republicans are inferring that Latinos are being allowed to break the law and vote past closing time at the polls.
Facts are, that when the polls are closed at 7PM. The designated polling marshal declares that no one else may enter the voting line. All those in line before 7PM will have a chance to vote even if it takes to midnight to accomplish.
Republican strategy this year to suppress voting is to reduce the number of polling stations in minority and high density democratic precincts and then complain the vote is rigged because people are still voting after the polls are supposed to be closed. Adding the element that "certain groups" was an added touch of republican deceit.
Republicans threw out the reduced polling places in democratic precincts as a trial balloon, during the primaries and it looks like that will be their general election strategy.
