That's just it though; it isn't up to us to give him a chance. It is up to Congress, and specifically up to the Republican majority in both houses. Specifically because he's trafficked so heavily in vague promises, which he allowed his supporters to internalize any way they see fit (so, for example, the KKK sees a promise as a promise to Make America White Again, while a steelworker sees that same promise as a promise to furnish him a high paying job within a few months), he'll have about 18 months to somehow deliver on those promises, in spite of the majority of Republicans perhaps being opposed to these things he's implicitly promised.
Serving xenophobia, Islamophobia and homophobia may be do-able given the power he will have at his disposal. Serving racism and sexism will be a little harder. But serving up the high paying jobs and affordable healthcare will be beyond his capability. Since he won't be able to champion his accomplishments with regard to serving racism, sexism, xenophobia, Islamophobia and homophobia, it'll be interesting to see how he tries to spin his failure with regard to the rest.
He'll blame everyone but himself, of course. The question is whether his supporters will finally see through him. It's always a safe bet that the POTUS' party will suffer significant defeat in the midterm elections, but I cannot do anything about that - I'm still going to predict that that will happen as a direct consequence of Trump's incapacity.
