Joss Whedon pulled out all the stops to get out the vote for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton ahead of Election Day, but to no avail — and now the writer-director says Republican President-elect Donald Trump “cannot” be allowed to serve even his first term in office.
“This is simple,” the 52-year-old Avengers director wrote on Twitter Monday. “Trump cannot CANNOT be a allowed a term in office. It’s not about 2018. It’s about RIGHT NOW.”

Whedon — who only recently returned to Twitter after having deleted his account last year following feminist backlash against his Avengers sequel — has spent the days since the election challenging Trump on social media.

“Letting [T]rump take office means burying democracy. Letting him take it without the popular vote means burying it alive,” the director wrote on Sunday.

“Is this all worse for the young ppl who are stunned or for those of us who’ve watched it since Reagan like a slow motion car crash?” he wrote in an earlier post.

Whedon has also called on Clinton supporters to “keep protesting.” In the days since Trump’s election victory, demonstrators have taken to the streets in New York City, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Washington D.C., among other cities, to protest the results.

It is not clear what Whedon (or anyone else) could do to prevent Trump from serving his first term in office, though some have attempted to do just that; since election night, more than four million people, including some celebrities, have signed a petition calling on electors in the Electoral College to disregard the will of their states’ voters and instead make Clinton president
.

Joss Whedon: 'Trump Cannot Be Allowed a Term in Office'

so will any of these whiny celebrities actually have any affect on Trump's presidency?

HAHA. I saw a clip on MSNBC where their own legal consultant said that the petition you mention has ABSOLUTELY ZERO chance of being successful at changing anything related to the election.

BEsides I believe even Hillary would refuse to reject the results from the electoral college. It is just more sour grapes.

Hillary had the who's who of celebrity endorsements during her campaign.

One thing all politicians should have learned in this election.... people don't give a damn what "celebrities" think.

These morons had better be careful.
There may be a will to enforce the law at some point.
Incitement to riot is against the law should they overstep the message.

I voted for Hillary and I can't stand the thought of Trump as president, but it's ridiculous to say things like "he can't be allowed to take office" or "we need to do away with the electoral college" or whatever.

We HAVE to respect our system even when a given election doesn't turn out like we want it to.

Anything one side does to the other side will be repeated when the tables are turned (and they will turn) so it's short-sighted to pursue a long-term change in the system that will come back to haunt your party when circumstances are reversed.

For example, if there comes a time when Trump is a lame duck president and needs to appoint a Supreme Court justice, good luck. The Republicans have shown how to be total ****heads under those circumstances and can expect the same in return.

That's because Hillary understands why the EC exists in the first place

Joss Whedon was great when he wrote Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I like his entertainment. But, he's not exactly a professor of political theory...I think I'll disagree on his opinions and go watch some more Buffy!

Hillary showed some class. Her supporters however including the privileged rich celebrities are continuing to show how deplorable they are
