I agree with how you put it.

The trouble for the Democrats is they do not realize that Bush screwed things up so bad that just about anyone could have won against McCain.
So they mistakenly believed the new formula to winning the presidency was to double down on identity politics. This despite the rebukes of non potus elections.

Then again, they have been at this for some time. When you read about certain historical figures (not related to partisan politics) you see that the (D's) have been doing this since the civil war.
I just finished reading a great book entitled

"The Immortal Irishman: The Irish Revolutionary Who Became an American Hero"
by Timothy Egan.

https://www.amazon.com/Immortal-Iris.../dp/0544272889

It is not a (D) vs. (R) book by any means. Yet interwoven in the story of pre and post Civil War, it discusses how the (D's) tried to pit the blacks against the (R's). This despite the fact the (R's) were responsible for freeing them.
So while this tactic might seem like it was developed during our lifetimes, it goes back much further than we realize.

The thing is someone like Tulsi also seems likeable. That's why I think she would definitely be someone that's Republicans should worry about in 2020.

On issue after issue after issue, the American people do not reject progressive policies. Thats just a fact. The American people might not believe many Democrats will fight for these issues and instead serve their big money donors, but they dont reject progressive issues at all.

Regarding Tulsi Gabbard, I believe she is one maverick that can carry the progressive agenda forward and is a great candidate for 2020, together with others like Nina Turner, Sherrod Brown and Al Franken.
Why does every post you make somehow involve "getting money out of politics"? You realize that labor unions often swing elections in favor of Democrats because of their election contributions, correct?

Nothing is more important than getting big money out of politics. We either have democracy, or a plutocracy. You might think it is great that it is impossible for you or anyone you know to win office without begging the super rich for money. But that is not democracy. A rigged economy held up by a corrupt system of campaign finance is a recipe for working class despair. We're seeing this play out today as life expectancy of rural whites decline as a result of alcoholism, suicides, drug overdoses and other horror stories. This is the result of the war on the 99% made possible by a corrupt system of campaign finance where the ruling donor class steamroll over Joe Sixpack.

Labor unions represent thousands of working class Americans and are the main reason workers did so well when unions were strong.

Not much different than Barrack Obama, when you put it that way.
