I don't think she will run simply because I always thought of her as someone who would prefer not to be in the spotlight. I think she could do it but won't.

I don't think Michelle Obama has any interest in running. If she did, she would do like Hillary did after Bill's Presidency and run for a Senate seat in some state. She would then serve 4 or 8 years and run for President.

Please let it happen. She's the only one who could make this mess better.

Sadly she has already expressed that she doesn't want to run

Not to mention a fair portion of the Republican vote that went for Trump. The bulk of voters of both parties aren't the far left or far right fringe. Sadly appealing to the rabid extremes of both parties seems to be essential to make it through the primary process. Webb/Gabbard would appeal to a lot of centrists that make up the bulk of both parties, and might actually take the campaign to a discussion of who actually has better ideas or solutions for this country. Things that might bring back/create jobs, control health care or education costs, address illegal immigration with real solutions rather that party sound bites.

Sadly, I think it's far too late for the Democratic party. The "gimme free stuff", identity politics crowd has largely taken over control of the party. Having discussions like an adult doesn't seem possible anymore.

Long opposed to US attempts to impose regime change in Syria, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D – HI) has made a trip to Syria this week, an unannounced visit which saw Gabbard spending considerable time in the capital city of Damascus “to promote and work for peace.”

Gabbard’s office, citing security, says a lot of the details of the trip are not going to be revealed until she has returned to the United States, and they declined to say if she had met directly with President Bashar al-Assad, though they did confirm she’d met with several government leaders while in Damascus.

With considerable foreign policy similarities between the two, Gabbard has met with President-elect Donald Trump since the election, and was rumored to be under consideration for important cabinet positions. It is entirely possible then that she made the visit as a de facto Trump Administration negotiator.

That they specifically declined to say if Rep. Gabbard met with Assad is tantamount to an admission that she did, and indeed it’s hard to imagine she would visit Damascus with an eye toward talking peace without meeting with the Syrian president.
She sounds considerably more sensible than Obama and his insistence on arming terrorists and overthrowing the legitimate government of an independent country.

ep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), who has charged the Obama administration with funneling money to the Islamic State and al-Qaeda-linked groups in Syria, visited Damascus this week on what her office called a “fact-finding trip . . . to promote and work for peace.”

Gabbard’s office, which did not announce the trip, said that for security reasons it would release no details on the trip until her return, including whether she met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“She felt it was important to meet with a number of individuals and groups including religious leaders, humanitarian workers, refugees and government and community leaders,” Gabbard spokeswoman Emily Latimer said in a statement.

On issue after issue after issue, the American people do not reject progressive policies. Thats just a fact. The American people might not believe many Democrats will fight for these issues and instead serve their big money donors, but they dont reject progressive issues at all.

Regarding Tulsi Gabbard, I believe she is one maverick that can carry the progressive agenda forward and is a great candidate for 2020, together with others like Nina Turner, Sherrod Brown and Al Franken.
Nice issues, I will give you that. Now I will ask you how we are going to pay for all of that? And you will respond by taxing the rich and corporations. Our tax rates for corporations are amongst the highest in the world--just one reason companies have left or expanded outside the US. As for the 1%, who do you think gave to these politicians, both D and R? So when these laws are passed, who gets the pleasure of proportionally paying more? The (shrinking) middle class. Great example is Obamacare--subsidized premiums and deductibles for the lower class--nothing but more expensive, lousy insurance for the middle class.

Trump is unique in that he has been registered as not only a democrat, but as an idependent (and of course now a republican). He not only was attacked by democrats (to be expected) it also many in the Republican Party. He has some left leaning views, some right and some that behold him to no party. He figured out the middle class was screwed and knew he needed to focus on economic issues--there's a lot of anger in this country and middle class is fed up with the government making rules and having it's hand out. The politicians are just as much as the 1% as Wall Streeters or Silicon Valley nerds--if they aren't wealthy when they enter Congress they sure are after a few terms.

The Democrats took your average working person for granted--and many of us voted with our wallets and will continue to do so.

As for Al Franken? I don't think he's as smart as he thinks he is. He would be a terrible choice.

Funny thing-that's what they said when someone mentioned Barack Obama 9 years ago. Or Donald Trump 1 year ago.

Honestly-NO. I like her and think she would be a great president. But there are 330 million people in this country. We don't need a Trump family dynasty any more than a Clinton or Bush one.

It can be paid for by how we pay for other public services, whether social security, Medicare, public schools, public roads etc. Its not a problem. We already wasted trillions in endless wars, tax breaks for the ultra rich and bailouts. Nominal tax rates for corporations are among the highest in the world in America but EFFECTIVE tax rates are among the lowest in the world. More giveaways to corporations are not needed. Get big money out of politics or we wont have a democracy soon. The donor class hate ideas like expanding social security, public funding of elections and banning for profit prisons. THEY will suffer from it, after 40 years of waging war against the middle class and low income people, the end result is extreme inequality and a rigged economy held up by a corrupt system of campaign finance.

Obamacare is Romneycare. Its an original right wing proposal, a gift to the pharma and insurance corporations as the elderly move to Medicare, the insurance companies need more customers so they were given Obamacare. Medicare-for-all single payer is the solution which the American people want. Politicians are puppets of the donor class, and do their bidding. Trump has packed his administration with huge numbers of crony capitalists, big money donors and establishment puppets.
