popular vote doesn't win the Presidency......just like most rushing yards or time of possession doesn't win football games.
Popular votes means that Democrat have a huge advantage in 2 states, California and New York where they win by super margins but the rest of the 48 states, the GOP controls the government by popular demand in the house, senate and most governorship and state legislatures.
If you argue margins, then you are making a flawed argument as Republicans win Southern and Mountain West states by the same or even larger margins.
you dont control House(state or federal) or state senates by "popular demand", districts are gerrymandered.
which is meaningless, just as most yards gained does not determine a Superbowl winner.
Murphy would get crushed.
The GOP will keep winning the EC until the Dems start promoting what pleases the Rust Belt, and that means a nominee 100% anti NAFTA as it existed under BC to BO, anti TPP and any new deal unless it is a net USA job creator, which means we would have to export > we import via any new deal.
Middle America hates Dems, and as you found out the Acela Belt plus West Coast < 270 ECs.
Any hope for your party rests with a Rust Belt sweep, and nothing less.
I'd prefer Kamala Harris, the new California Senator. She's a solid progressive who doesn't seem to have many of the unelectable qualities that Hillary had. I'd still vote for Murphy, though.
Lately, I am seriously becoming a fan of Democratic U.S. Senator from CT, Chris Murphy. He is on the national stage now, often on prime time television networks, and has made a prominent name for himself, particularly when it comes to matters of gun reform and foreign policy. As a Democrat, I hope he considers running for POTUS in 2020, as I believe he possesses the qualities that we need in a president. He is very smart, young, progressive and has 10+ years of political experience as house representative and U.S. senator now.
He is definitely a rising star in the Democratic Party.
What do you think, Democrats?
Over time, perhaps, he'll have more name recognition. At least it's one person not over the age of 70 who could represent Democrats later on. But even he will have a hard time beating a deep Republican bench.

This is the problem with your argument

Democrats as a whole didnt support NAFTA the majority voted against it. And not a single one in those 3 states voted for it, and yet, somehow, Democrats got blamed for it.
Republicans are the pro NAFTA party. Even John Kasich and Rob Portman(won re election the same night trump won) voted for it.

Your logic is flawed.
Wrong, as with DT's win, you will see anti NAFTA as is Republicans run. Pence, the next nominee when DT hangs them up, is tied to the platform he ran on with DT.
Kasich and Portman will never be nominees.
Dems as nominees are in bed with Wall St. Hence they back bad trade deals for Middle America.
