Probably decades ago. Keep in mind that Democrats have always dominated government offices, particularly in major cities. Places like Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington, DC, have been under Democrat control for 60-70 years in unbroken lines. The myth of the GOP being the party of the rich dates back to like the 1800s and has just been perpetuated in a giant lie by the left. Even today, when it is absolutely clear that the Democrats are supported by CEOs, hedge fund managers, tech companies, lobbyists, and lawyers, they still parade around calling themselves the party of the little people. Only the uneducated believe them.

What if I told you they have been about the 1% for decades but they have done a better job of selling the idea that they were for the little people this whole time?

Democrats prospered due to higher education and the jobs that followed. The economies of the cities are strong and the cities benefit from education and diversity. When you look at the West Coast and the Northeast, they don't regard education as elitist. Companies looking for educated workers chose to locate in these cities so there are more jobs. Interestingly, Trump markets to blue locations, so it's no wonder he's focusing internationally now that his brand will be less popular in those same blue locations. As an example, Trump only received 8% of the vote in Seattle where there literally are not enough houses for the amount of people moving there so multiple offers without contingencies are common.

Do you honestly believe that eliminating minimum wage, crushing unions and privatizing Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security is good for the little people?

Who bankrolls Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell? Who funds Bernie Sanders? Why does the GOP want to eliminate all restrictions on campaign finance? If Trump gets to elect a conservative Scalia clone for the supreme court, he will, just like Scalia push for no limits. This means that Sheldon Adelson can simply give $500 million to 4 or 5 senators he wants to own, give them their script and they'll work for him. The Koch brothers can do the same.

The little guy doesnt stand a chance against this money in politics. Why do you support this? Only New Deal Democrats like Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown and John Fetterman stand up for ordinary salt of the earth Americans.

Do you honestly believe backing hyper immigration (1 million legal immigrants into this country per year), refusing to secure the border and refusing to make E-verify the law of the land "is good for the little people"? What good is an increase in the minimum wage when unskilled Americans lose out to illegals? And all their talks about being concerned about the environment ring hollow when they encourage more and more people to come to this country.

Back to the OP---At one time, democrats truly looked out for poor, working and middle classes. Those dems of yore would have been horrified to discover that their constituents were either being displaced in the workforce or were seeing their wages get depressed all due to illegal immigration. And those dems would have done something about it---and I don't mean amnesty. Once upon a time, poor, working and middle class Americans could count on the dems to fight for them. I grew up in a very blue state hearing stories about how much the dems did for Americans.

I'm not sure exactly when it was that dems did a 180. Bubba started out against illegal immigration. It was during his administration when it was made illegal for states to give illegal aliens in-state tuition. Also, a wall was built at the San Diego-Tijuana border. After Bubba left office, during the GW Bush administration, dems (to me anyway) got emboldened and started fight tooth and nail for illegals, instead of Americans. Some states defied the feds and gave in-state tuition to the illegals. Whenever any steps were taken to fight back, the dems succeeded in stopping it all. Then along came Obama who made an already bad situation even worse. Had Hillary won (perish the thought!) things would continue to worsen.

Today's dems only pretend to care for "the little people". They push to increase minimum wage and pretend to care about the environment (see what I wrote above). All the while, they put illegals and work visa holders ahead of the millions of suffering underemployed and unemployed Americans.

People complain about elitist republicans all the while willfully ignoring the elitist limousine liberals in their ranks.

Both parties are the party of the 1%.

Why? Because that's where the money is.

Did the Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Peter Thiel, Foster Friess, the Marriott brothers, Paul Singer, William Dore, etc. change parties?
