To elaborate on what you have said, it is important to note that at the start of this election cycle, the Democratic establishment was far more powerful than the GOP establishment. It's no secret that the GOP elite wanted Jeb Bush to be the nominee. Yet they failed miserably in deterring other top Republicans from running for president, which is why the GOP primary field was so large. (Mitt Romney was the only top Republican who was too scared to challenge the Bush machine, even though the Bush forces initially bragged that they were going to use a "shock and awe" strategy to deter prominent Republicans from running for president.)

By contrast, no major Democrats came forward to challenge Hillary Clinton. Her only competition consisted of a member of the long-dead Blue Dog wing of the party (Jim Webb), two obscure former governors (Martin O'Malley and Lincoln Chafee), and--of course--Bernie Sanders. And even though Sanders ended up giving Hillary a real run for her money, he was initially not considered to be a threat, since he was an avowed socialist who wasn't even an official member of the Democratic party. In hindsight, the fact that Sanders posed such a strong challenge to Clinton is evidence that (1) a large portion of the Democratic base actually agrees with his extremist views and (2) Clinton was a far worse candidate than most everybody realized at the start of the election cycle.
I think Hillary also struggled a lot because of the bitter fight she had with Obama in 2008. People forget but she was labeled "racist" along with her supporters. As a result, a lot of younger and minority Obama voters still had a bad opinion of her which dogged her in turnout and even in cross-over voting.

I agree that Biden had a better shot at winning than Hillary. I think the death of his son took a lot out of Joe.
ROFL,, Hillary's problems are Donald Trump's fault????

The Daily Mail is a British rag equivalent of those papers sold by the side of supermarket checkouts.

I've worked a job and paid taxes. Joe Biden has sucked those taxes into a bottomless pit.

I'm the contributor. Not Joe.

Are you saying that Joe Biden didn't make those quotes about Hillary? Then prove it.

Hillary made the choice to get in the mud.

We watched campaign ads and talked about them - my mostly pro-Democratic students thought her ads were awful. Almost all focused on dumb things Trump said and rarely about what she would do.

She then decided to spend more time in California than she did in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania combined.

I know that this is a foreign concept for many libs, but the only person who "made" Hillary get anywhere was Hillary herself.

Or are you stating that Hillary was powerless to Trump's words? If so, he's light weight compared to some world leaders, and it's a good thing, then, that she didn't win. If she couldn't handle an American citizen mocking her, there is no way she would have been able to handle world leaders who do not view women favorably.

This.

I'm still laughing my gizzards off thinking about Joe, "Stand up Chuck Let um see ya" Biden, embarrassed by anything!

God rest her soul... oh, she's right over there, well God rest your soul anyway, and God rest your dead father's soul too!

Joe Biden! The gift that keeps on givin! Give that man a megaphone!

So besides that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play? - Joe Biden's great great great grand uncle.

Easy now. When we go low, she goes high.
