Harvard professor says 20 GOP voters may flip against Trump | TheHill

If the Electoral College does not reach a majority vote, how many of you who did not vote for Trump hope that it will go to the House? (Please indicate, if you will, whom you voted for or if you did not vote at all.)

I voted for Johnson, I hope that it will go to the House, and I hope that Kasich will end up being President.

Also, for those who need a quick lesson or a mini-refresher about what this entails:

Also, can anyone tell me what will happen if someone besides Trump IS elected by the House? Can a "last minute dark house" (sorry, could not think of a better term) actually be ready to take charge, including selecting a vice president and all other necessary appointments, by January 20? Thanks!

Let me preface this by saying, Trump will win, regardless.

BUT....The history fan in me would like to see it go to the House for no other reason than the history of it, and to see what happens.

Under your scenario, the EC could still select the Vice President. Even if they don't, the Senate would select the VP, rather than the new President.

As far as the other appointments are concerned... almost any human being with a pulse can pick a better Cabinet in 2 weeks, and be more up to speed, than an ignorant moron like Trump can do in 2 months.

But no, I wouldn't like to see that. The House would just pick Trump anyway, and there would be one more layer of divisiveness driving the country apart for nothing.

Thanks. I did read MORE about it, but the difference between the 1824 and 2016 elections were that Trump DID win the majority of the electoral votes, unlike the 1824 election in which no one had a majority.

(Unless I misunderstood something -- and, as always, I am willing to have my "facts" corrected!)

My sympathy for those hanging onto the hope that Trump will have the Presidency stolen from him. It just isn't going to happen. For a group of higher educated.................. Could Electoral College Elect Clinton? - FactCheck.org

Thank you so much for the link, but as the article mainly regurgitated the unlikelihood that the 2008 election would go to the House, and I am not at all sure that the opinion still holds. Back then, not many people were so extremely "anti-Obama" or so pro-McCain.

One thing is almost certain, though, I think -- the 2016 election will not soon be forgotten!

I voted Clinton. I'm in Texas, so it's not like my vote mattered. My husband voted Johnson. Neither of us wanted Trump.

That being said, I don't support the electors switching votes (even though its part of the EC system). I think the resulting chaos would destroy our nation. I also think Trump is likely to destroy it, too. But I'm hopeful that maybe he wont.

The Republicans now have unfettered ability to implement all the policies they want and can't blame Democrats for blocking them. Maybe their policies will work and be wonderful. I'll be pleasantly surprised if that happens. But if they fail horribly, then maybe people will kick them out of office for a few years and the pendulum will swing the other way. There are too many variables to know for sure what will happen.

What scares me more than anything is Pence as VP. I wish it were Kasich or someone with less extreme religious-based views. I suspect Trump will be more of a figurehead and Pence will be running things.

I unenthusiastically voted for Clinton. Trump won the electoral college. He should be president. Period. I'm not happy about the outcome but it's done.

The republicans control all aspects of our government now and probably will for many years to come, especially after the 2018 senate is in place.

Hopefully if things get bad enough....I'm thinking Obamacare gutted with no replacement and those with pre-existing conditions once again uninsurable, amongst other issues....democrats will gain some power. But from what I've seen, that isn't what the majority of my fellow citizens want.

I do wonder if Trump will eventually be impeached by the republican congress once they've had enough of his bizarre behavior.

For the time being, I'm retired, I've stopped reading all news and I've never watched TV so it's easy to insulate myself from the political goings on. Except for the occasional CD political post that I foolishly click on.

I've had enough. I need a break.
