Aren't black people actually less well off under obama?

Really, white people voted for trump. As simple as that.
No. It isn't that simple. There were 4 candidates, 2 of them were minor, but stripped 6% of the total Michigan vote from Trump and Clinton - Exit Polls 2016. Trump won by only 10,000 votes.

If you subtract 6% to third party candidates from the 4.8 million votes cast in Michigan per the above link, you need 2,256,000 to reach 50% of the Clinton / Trump vote. Without minority votes, Trump would have lost Michigan. Trump received 2,052,000 white votes total per the link. Trump only won by obtaining 214,000 minority votes.

White women voted 51% for Trump, 43% for Hillary, the remainder was split across other candidates. White men voted 64% for Trump and 29% for Hillary.

Hillary has a problem with men. Democrats also have growing problems with Hispanics and Blacks. In the next cycle, it is likely Trump will work to improve the situation of minority voters, and garner a larger share of the minority vote.

Democrat identity politics failed this cycle, in part due to a very poor candidate, who had significant legal and ethical lapses. She could not draw out the minority vote as Obama did. Trumps outreach, while small compared to the Democrat minority vote, was sufficient to win the state.

Hillary spent more money in Arizona and Texas than she did in the Blue Wall states, in hindsight this shows hubris, and really poor candidate skills. She believed her own polls. Trump was on the stump 7 days a week for the last few weeks, 6-7 times per day, as was Pence and other Trump children / high profile supporters.

Obama, Bill and Michelle tried to aid Hillary, but she was unable to inspire sufficient people to her cause. She also did not campaign in these states much if at all in some. Had Hillary made more of an effort or had she invested more in these states, she would likely be President.

Yes, though only 6% of blacks voted for Trump, 92% for Hillary according to Exit Polls 2016 9% of black men voted for Trump, 3% of black women voted for Trump in Michigan.

The dichotomy may be due to dependence on the welfare state, and a desire to either continue it or get off it.

Leftist indoctrination and dogma will continue to skew minority votes, until they can receive a better education. We didn't wind up in this situation overnight, and will not resolve it even in 8 years. It may take Donald and Ivanka to help change the indoctrination system minorities particularly experience.

Probably blacks and Hispanics as usual but not so much with women.

If this election has proven anything...it's that women aren't necessarily a "voting block."

Trump won the majority of white women at 53%. Many women voted in their individual best interests this time around and not in a communal unit that the Dems were expecting and hoping for like in years past.

Hispanics are a little more predictable...and blacks are far more predictable.

In regards to the black vote, I think that it's all about turn out--nothing more, nothing less. They are going to vote Democrat...that's a given, but i Highly doubt that we'll ever see the turn out that we have for Barack with any other Democrat candidate in the future.

Even with Obama's personal endorsement of Hillary--black folks didn't come out for her in any significant numbers at all. I don't see how any Democrat candidate in the future could turn out more of the black vote than she did.

The real question is, when his supporters aren't getting exactly what they voted for, how soon will they turn on him?

So far, most Trump supporters are very happy.

The welfare state. Really?

How about, even in 2016, many men (and women) are not comfortable with a women leading the country or the military.

But it is a lot more fun to just make stuff up. All black people are on welfare.

Completely. That 37% approval rate speaks volumes.

So do the Trump supporters about to lose ACA.

they didn't vote against Trump this time. Most people stayed home despite the Clinton campaign telling everyone that Trump was so unacceptable that people needed to come out to vote for Hillary just to vote against Trump
