A former clown for Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus is running for Congress in South Carolina.
If he wins the D nomination, it could make for an interesting debate against the sitting Congressman, if he shows up with his seltzer bottle or shaving cream pies.

Upon further reflection, such a debate might have more substance than what passes for a debate now. At least, it might get a laugh or reduce tensions a bit.
You remind me of an old Monty Python skit, concerning an election (in Britain) with political parties with silly names. Indeed, the most 'normal' name was The Very Silly Party, and the names got worse (or better) as the skit went on.
I was amused, years later, to find out that the skit was based on fact. The last election they had, one party sported the name of "Monster Raving Looney Party".
Anyway, we have had actors and reality TV stars in politics, so why not a clown? It is a living.
Of course, the clowns I most admire are the rodeo clowns. They serve to protect the cowboys after they are tossed off bulls and horses.
The rodeo clowns divided into 2 different types long ago.
One is the traditional rodeo clown, who clowns it up in the arena while there's nothing happening. Pat of their job is to keep the crowd amused during all the slow moments.
The others are called bullfighters. They don't clown.
They do sometimes wear the loud getup, and sometimes put on face paint, but their job is as you say- bull distraction. These guys almost always work in groups of 3, and they tend to be seen mostly in the specialty bull-riding events that have no other traditional rodeo events in them.
3 at a time triangulate the bull, so when the rider comes off, there is always one at the bull's head, one behind him, and one at the side. This causes confusion in the bull and more opportunities to distract him. At bull-riding events, there's very little time between one bull and the next, so the bullfighters stay in the arena, but have no time to clown.
I would vote for a circus clown; making families laugh is a good skill for any politician. And kids aren't shooting targets for circus clowns.
Lol, this is the district where my parents moved down to. FWIW, the clown is unlikely to get much traction in the primary. Archie Parnell who lost by 3% in the Special Election last year is running again and should win the Democratic nomination easily.
