Racists exist and and always will.

But what does one say when an avowed white supremacist wins a N.C. GOP state primary by a 2/3 margin? What does that say about that area he ran in?

I'm truly shocked that there are still people who would actually think and support a person like that. He's worse than David Duke!

Maybe because despite his personal views, they think that he will be the best person to be governor of their state?

It says nothing. The Republicans don't run in state rep districts like this because they will be solid 80% Democrat in the general anyway. So some racist kooks see the opportunity and win these primaries unopposed.

I wish I had a dollar for every thread that contained the word race or racist.

Personal views don’t exist within a vacuum. They are direct indications of moral character and good or bad judgement, among others. A white supremacist has already shown deep problems with both, and there is no way that those problems don’t manifest in other ways. What you’re trying to argue is something akin to saying a rapist can have good education policy or a Nazi can balance a budget. While those things may be true in some weird way, you don’t support a rapist or Nazi being the vessel of those ideas. If this is the best the NC GOP can come up with, they’re not exactly dispelling the stereotype that Republicans have become the party of racists. There’s a reason these people keep finding a home in the GOP.

The article says the NC GOP has dropped support for this guy. Where's the controversy?

At the same time, a member of the the Charlotte city council, a Democrat, has called the police terrorists and says that 9/11 was fake. This is the largest urban area in NC. Why hasn't the Democrat party dropped support for her?

Why the double standard?

He wasn't unopposed. But he did get 66% of the vote. That makes it a contested primary.

The controversy is that 2/3 of the GOP primary voters selected this guy. Two flippin' thirds!!! What does that say about the GOP voters in that area?

That's 67% of the voters in that NC district. And of course Newsweek left out the part that we are talking about just 824 people.

LaWana Mayfield got 74% in her NC district. That's 9246 people. More than 10X as much.

What does that say about the Democrat voters in her district?

Why the double standard?

I have no idea who LaWana Mayfield is. Is he/she a racist? Xenophobe? KKK member? Nazi sympathizer? Holocaust denier? What is he/she?
