It is Ridiculous to make an outrage about this. It must have been a slow news day..
Why does everything have to be about racism?
I wonder if this hanging statement was made by a politician in Vermont which has no "history of lynchings" if it would have been spun to become a racist headline?
I wonder if a Democrat anywhere said this if it would have been talked about of ignored?
Maybe it was racially motivated, maybe not, although anyone with half a brain should have known it would raise the question. The thing is, even if racism had no part whatsoever in her comment, why on earth would anyone say something like that, or even think it? I am no fan of the death penalty, anyway, and to treat it as entertainment is simply barbaric.
Its like when Ray Nagin, mayor of New Orleans, referred to his city as a "Chocolate City." It was probably insensitive to over 30% of the people he was supposed to care about. Part of being a good leader is thinking before you speak , it is not a skill that comes easy. That's why its a common story of a politician having to apologize for something they said.

So english is not my first language, nor was it my second or third. It's my fourth language. But even I understand that phrase though i never heard it before.
So let me re-phrase her expression in terms of symbols: I like Y so much, I'd do X if Y asked me too.
Y = some person (in this case the person she was endorsing, forgot his name, won't bother to look it up, you know who I'm referring to).
X= something unpleasant (in this case public hanging).
She wasn't saying public hanging fun, she was using it as something unpleasant to show her adoration of Y.
English is my first language and hangings are something a lot of people used to gather for. There are photos around of people at lynchings. Some of them are, oddly enough, grinning.
So it isn't that hangings are something people are all that reluctant to attend.
I want a person who shows critical thinking skills and has basic knowledge of civics as a candidate for political office...at the least. If I were a Mississippian I would seriously think twice before voting for this person because she appears to not have the knowledge that is necessary to act reasonably and rationally in the political process.
Or perhaps this was a political strategy to further align herself with the type of base Trump attracts and agitates.
Either way, if I were a Mississippian I would cast a definite NO against this candidate for the U.S. Senate. Does not appear worthy of the office.
