The disturbing part for me is she implies this is a common saying in MS. If true, that's odd and off-putting.
In GA and in TX, I've heard the phrase "can I Jew you down" as a way of asking for a lower price. Every region has their local expressions. Yes, they are odd, but so what? A public hanging was an official punishment back when our country was young and also in other parts of the world, including Europe. And then there is that Clash song, with a recording of a judge pronouncing the sentence of death by hanging in the mix.
And is playing the game Hangman now a racist pastime?
At work, sometimes we've used the phrase "let them eat cake"... sometimes a phrase just sticks in your head. *shrug*

heck, just losing a shoelace these days can throw the snowflakes into an extended state of terror.
So you're telling me, wedge politics like DeSantis practices is valued because it works in electoral politics? What about just plain old decency and recognition of ALL people in your constituency?
You're to blame. By throwing these hissy fits and crying hysterically over some words (which may or may not have hidden meanings) like some grade school teacher - you're a) turning people against you b) preventing any serious discussions of the issues.
I bet with DeSantis election, all that could be stated by most of the electorate was he used the word 'monkey.' It's terribly retarded you're fake outrage games.

Nah. That's just a flimsy attempt at denial and gaslighting, because it seems that YOU don't want any serious discussion of the context. A cheap way to say "Move along, there's nothing to see here." If that's the case, why have some donors asked for their money back or disavowed the candidate? I'm not telling those corporate people to pull their $$.
Granted, Hyde-Smith is still favored to win just because it's Mississippi - where there are very few swing votes, and the electorate is polarized. But it's turning out to be a heck of a lot more competitve than anticipated.

^In Mississippi, it’s a distinction without a difference, really.
Only if you want to play the race card. Before the invention of electricity, if a criminal were sentenced to death, it would have to be by hanging or a firing squad.
The Alabama Power Company was founded on Dec. 4, 1906, but there were public hangings in that state until at least 1925. Eventually, the electric chair was used for executions.

Malarky.
A) These people were already against us.
B) AT&T, Walmart, etc. may be throwing "hissy fits," but they also want their donations back.
C) Serious discussions of issues are undermined by calling people "terribly retarded."
(FYI, using "retarded" as an insult is also considered in poor taste these days. Just sayin'.)

D) It's "your" not "you're" you want here.
Well said!
