Nope. You got it exactly backwards and in full denial of the history and context of the history of MS.
What you got wrong is human psychology. No one likes being told they can't say X word because you will go and wag your finger at them. They will tell you to go F yourself, and that's honestly what you should do instead of pretending you're some school teacher.

She's likely to win because of the structure of the electorate in MS - there are few swing voters and the electorate is divided up with a white majority that votes very heavily Republican, and a smaller but considerable African American electorate (just about 40%) that votes heavily Democratic. Just do the math and even if the black people all turnout - the GOP will win pretty much every time in statewide contests.
Exactly, and this strategy will never win you any white votes. All you will do is energize black voters, but also energize white voters in the opposite direction. So in turn you lost the election. Like you did with DeSantis.
If you stuck to policies you could find common ground, but you will find none here. Tell someone they can't do say something, and they will always push back on you.

So Espy always would be a long shot - but this controversy has made it more competitive.
Mississippi has always been a desperately poor, undeveloped and uneducated place. It ranks low in all achievement indicators along with its deep south cohorts like alabama et . Stupid people dominate the state and this whole region. I wish we can just sell the state off to another country and be done with these deplorables.

So you want to sell off the state with the highest percentage of blacks in all of the USA? Where do you want to send them? Liberia perhaps?

Your tired argument about semantics has been trumped by 1) donors pulling their money and 2) noose hanging at the state capital. That's not about words, folks, but a symbol to intimidate black people.
Actually, energizing black voters worked to defeat Roy Moore in Alabama - and enough white voters voted to put in Jones. Hyde Smith was supposed to have a cakewalk. This controversy has made it more of a race. She may ultimately win, but by a lot less if this didn't happen.
The more things change, the more they remain the same in Mississippi. Hyde-Smith is a joke.

GULFPORT, MISS—Republicans in Mississippi may not be in love with Cindy Hyde-Smith, who was appointed to the Senate earlier this year after longtime Sen. Thad Cochran retired due to health issues.
But many say they're voting for her anyway in Tuesday's runoff election, which is happening because neither candidate got 50 percent of the vote on November 6th. And the simplest, most common reason why they support her?
"She's a Republican, I guess," said Jerry Smith, a grandfather and longtime Mississippi resident.
It's the same old south
It's a regular children's heaven
Where they don't start to work until they're seven
It's the same old south.
