Only? It was significant he won at all against a long term (in office since 2001), opposing party incumbent, that is a rare feat.

Rick Scott committed the largest Medicare fraud in history as a health care CEO and his negligence as governor during Hurricane Irma caused seniors to live in flooded facilities for weeks and 12 died due to lack of A/C. He ignored calls for increased assistance from nursing homes, probably to show his "fiscal conservatism." He should be sitting in prison, not in the Senate.

Not at all, Nelson was ineffective as senator recently, wish the Democrats replaced him, he should have stepped down actually.

It is not Scott's fault that idiots mismanaged a nursing home, the governor of any state does not have the capability to micromanage like that. The issue with the nursing homes had nothing to do with funding. Irma was handled just fine.

If the truth be told, this election exposed two big problems that Dems had been wont to address in the last couple of years. Broward County elections were an utter mess. Since this is such a Dem stronghold this really hurt them- both Gillum and Scotts teams had apparently been fearful of this going into the election. The other problem is that Nelson was lethargic at best. I actually compared his candidacy to 'Weekend at Bernie's' earlier in the campaign and he proved me correct. If he had started his campaign sooner, actually targeted voters and familiarized himself with the current state better he would have come up with 12 more votes. If the Broward elections weren't being run by a failed manager there would not have been a 20-30k Senate under vote.

In Florida- Rs don't have to win. They can simply get out of the way and let Dems lose.

I have to agree with Boxus in regard to Dems needing to be more active with giving some of their more 'senior' reps gentle nudging to move along. Its not so much about age as complacency.

Guess it is because Scott dumped millions of dollars into this, just like he did with his governor campaigns and because of his history of corruption and unethical behavior, while ignoring Florida's environment. Who would vote for a guy that produced miles and miles of dead fish on the beach? Owned by the NRA. And basically a freak of nature. We've already got one bozo representing Florida. Now we have two more.

He did buy it. Look at O'Rourke's campaign--small donations from average Americans. Compare that to Scott shoveling millions into his. How is that not buying it? He's just another Trump oligarch flunky.

Do you think it is just a coincidence that there are so many millionaires and billionaires in congress and the cabinet?

"...Since becoming governor, Scott has shielded his assets from public scrutiny by using a blind trust and a series of privately held partnerships in his name and the name of his wife, Ann Scott. As the wealthiest governor in Florida history with a net worth of $232 million, Scott's latest report that his net worth rose by $83 million in a single year was notable even for him..."

It seems to me that every candidate for every office uses as much money as is at their disposal, in order to win.

Hillary outspent Trump by $500,000,000. If she had won, would you have said that she bought the election?

Nobody was physically forced to vote for Scott, people voted by choice, no matter how much money was spent on either side. That is the way elections work. The results are still the will of the people.

And what did Nelson do about Florida's environment? Also, the red tide issue has not been identified as why, but strongly points to release from the federal controlled Lake Okeechobee. Farm pollutants are a cause of this, yet no federal regulation of this at all, even when the Democrats had Congress and the presidency.

Yet Scott is to blame?

I have zero care about his finances by the way.

How they get their election money is of no concern to me, other than the fact all of them receive from people who are ineligible to vote for them, which in my opinion should be against the law.

Too bad he had higher approval than Nelson most of the time over the last 8 years... if only the nonsense you said was true... Scott wouldn't have won.

Rick Scott won 45% of Hispanics in FL in 2018. That takes skill, and true political acumen.

LOL whenever a Republican wins the Democrats always say "Well, it wasn't THAT big of a margin, so there!" You lost, get over it.
