You can be a complete a-hole in Texas but, currently, having an "R" by your name pretty much guarantees a victory. But that's beginning to change.... slowly. Coming that close to beating an entrenched Republican in Texas was nothing short of amazing. He still has a huge following here.

I have read that liberals don't like him because he is too mainstream for them and he is in bed with big oil.

What does 'too mainstream' mean?

LAWL. Why would anyone vote for a Democrat? There's your problem.

It's not something wrong with Texans or Texas.

That's some crazy talk, right there.

The reason why Beto can consider running for President is because he scared Cruz pale and terrified the Texas Republicans by out-raising them by millions of small donatations. O'Roarke raised $80 million against Cruz, who only raised $46 million.

That election was presumed to be a walk-away for Cruz.

Beto came out of nowhere, and came within a cat's whisker of taking a seat that has been solidly conservative for 40 years.
No one, especially the Republicans, thought the Texas race would be fought so hard and expensively. It is the most money that has ever been spent on any Senate race in history.

Here's the most important takeaway: Beto didn't come so close because of his nickname.

He won over everyone, including the Hispanics running against a Hispanic, with his easy charm, bright disposition, bi-lingual fluency, and his positions on matters that are really important to Texans. Playing the bass in a cool rock band didn't hurt him any either. Nor did his voting record in the House.

But all that is only Texas. Winning the Presidency is a completely different job. Consideration is needed.

Anybody's guess is as good as any other until he announces.
People thought he would beat Cruz. Now its just revisionist history saying Cruz was going to win all along.

If you read that article, does that give anyone confidence that he can handle a debate against Trump or fellow Democratic challengers?

His opponents will use all that stuff against him especially his constitution comments. If he wants to be president, he needs to focus on policy and having answers to the tough questions he will be facing as a presidential candidate.

Cruz is popular with the people he needed to win; white evangelical Christians. That's really all that matters in deep red states like Texas.

Incorrect.

I said here several times that Cruz would clean his clock. And I was proved right yet again.
