Why 53 is a good number ?
It takes Collins and Murkowski out of position when they appose Trump's agenda. It also takes out Romney as the spoiler. A position John McCain played and Romney, IMO, was looking forward to playing. All three could be a no vote and the V.P would break the tie in critical votes to make 51 needed for judge and cabinet appointments assuming democrats continue to block vote against the Trump agenda.

You forgot about Cory Gardner of Colorado. He is clearly on the bubble along with a couple other Rs in blue states. Not to mention, of course, that the thrashing Trump earned for the GOP in the midterms has lowered his stock with them considerably. He may not find them so amenable.

Trump went out and got himself some insurance against the Demonic Rats impeachment plans....he's so much smarter than them....not really fair.

Tax revenue is at an all time high. Government spending will be addressed in a major way in 2019. The Dems will oppose any cut in spending and will scream about starving children and massive unemployment. They will then claim the tax cuts are not working and there is no such thing as trickle down. Their solution will be to propose massive new unnecessary spending programs.

Pelosi has promised to repeal the tax cuts bit by bit.

Meh.
The rallies only keep the true believers true. The senators who were elected and appeared in them would have won anyway, because Trump was very selective in choosing which candidates to throw a rally for. He avoided those candidates he either didn't like or stood a poor chance of winning.

And most of all, none of them expanded his base support. 2020 will not be like the 2016 election. If Trump fails to gain more new voters in 2020, he'll lose. He's simply too unpopular to win again as a fresh surprise candidate.

The rallies are Trump's best tool, but he had better start using that tool more wisely if he wants to be re-elected.

Were you also one of those who said Trump had zero chance in 2016??

Some of you are so funny. Perhaps I'm part of the 1% who benefited. Trickle down economy does not work. It just makes the rich richer.

Trickle down works.
Worry about your own paycheck, not about some rich person you heard about. You are taking home more money as a result of the tax cut. 80% of the working population benefits.
People are spending more because they have it, and best of all tax revenue is at an all time high.
