I am not generally in favor of candidates getting elected under one party label and then later switching. The extremism of the Republican Party however is the root cause of this as sane people can no longer in good conscience continue to be a part of it.

More Kansas lawmakers switch parties: Sykes, Clayton leave GOP, become Democrats

Sen. Dinah Sykes and Rep. Stephanie Clayton, both moderate Johnson County Republicans, said Wednesday they are becoming Democrats. They join Sen. Barbara Bollier, who left the Republican Party earlier in December.

Kansas is going to become a purple state. I could tell it was going to be when I first drove through Johnson County 3+ years ago.

You heard it here first.

If there’s a trend to watch in this, it’s the lack of enthusiasm for the Trump version of the Republican Party in upscale suburbia, even in deep red states. Rather than seeing a split between red and blue states, it’s more descriptive to say it’s a nationwide split between urban and suburbs with high concentrations of college grads on one side and exurbs and rural areas on the other. It’s not so pronounced in the Deep South because you don’t see such dramatic splits between white college and white blue collar, but you can find examples there also.

These "Republicans" were precisely why Kansas--long a Republican stronghold on many levels--has only recently become a conservative state. They were RINOs.

If you want a majority you need moderates.

The only significant #walkaway movement is among Republicans who cannot stomach Donald Trump.

Purists are more likely to be a sect than a governing majority.

Not in Kansas, you don't. There are enough conservatives there to form a majority in government.

Awful lot of talk about state legislators who make 86$ a day for the days they work.
These people don't even work full time and posters carry on as if there has been a "seismic shift"; "a great quaking of The Force".

They’re a lot more consequential than Diamond and Silk.
