Don't pick anyone from California......too left...No one good from California this time around.
If the top 3 are Bernie Saunders, Hillary Clinton, and Kamala Harris.....good luck. Trump will probably win again. I live in California. I love immigrants, but there are too many of them who want free this and that. Do you know that the elderly immigrants who give all of their assets to their children qualify for Social Security without having to work in the past? How about immigrants getting paid to care for their own family members as "caregivers?" I see it happening. How much is too much? This is why Trump, as vile as he is, got elected. There are many Trump supporters who are "closet," and just don't talk politics. They simply go in and vote for him and his politics.
I think Nancy Pelosi and her powers that be are foolish not to come back to the bargaining table. I love it that Trump cancelled her expensive tour.

I have also heard talk about the Mayor of Los Angeles running as well. Maybe he would be better representative of California in this contest?

Mayor of South Bend, Indiana Pete Buttigieg, is considering a run for US president:
https://www.indystar.com/story/news/...run/465952002/

He's 36, a veteran of Afghanistan, and openly gay. He graduated from Harvard college and was a Rhodes scholar. He would be the first openly gay president.

There has long been speculation that James Buchanan was gay. He lived with an ex-VP Rufus King, also said to be gay (King County, where I live, was named after him). Andrew Jackson called the pair "Miss Nancy and Miss Fancy."

The article says he is the first openly gay candidate for the Democrats. Is Buttigieg going to make an identity politics play based on his open homosexuality?

Who knows?
He may not make it an issue, but I'm sure it will be an issue if he gets very far.

I tend to think his age and relative lack of experience could be bigger issues for him. 36 is too young to be President for a lot of voters.

I'm one, for sure. I probably won't ever vote for a President who isn't in their 40s or older. I think 40-60 is the best balance of age, experience, stamina and energy for most candidates, with 65 topping it out. I really disliked my choice in 2016 because I thought they were both too old.

My early projected winner of the Democrat's political cage match, Kamala Harris, is now leading the field for the Democrats according to the Daily Kos second straw poll. In the first Daily Kos straw poll, Elizabeth Warren, was leading.

Quote:
Kamala Harris leads 2020 Dem field in second Daily Kos straw poll

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) jumped into the lead in progressive news website Daily Kos’s straw poll, days after announcing that she’d run for president in 2020.

According to Daily Kos’s second straw poll of 28,000 members, Harris is the new front-runner, with 27 percent. Harris announced her candidacy on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, during an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America." Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) came in second place with 18 percent, while former Vice President Joe Biden garnered 13 percent and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) scored 13 percent.

In Daily Kos's first straw poll two weeks, Warren, who was the first major Democratic candidate to jump into the race, was in the lead. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) came in second, with 15 percent, and Harris and Biden were close behind, tied with 14 percent each. In Tuesday’s straw poll, O’Rourke dropped down to fifth place, with 8 percent of support.
There are a lot of these candidates that I would be delighted to see win and face off against Donald Trump in the general election. This one more than any other would put the Democrat left's "Identity politics" and "Political correctness" agenda - which truly is the central pillar of their political values and priorities these days, not only for their party, but by dammit, for everyone in our country, whether you like it or not - to the test.

And of course she is also secondarily supportive of the socialist left economic agenda popularized by Bernie Sanders.

So the Democrat field starts to take shape in earnest, with Kamala Harris apparently in the lead.

Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn) has decided not to run for President. Pardon me, but I am starting to lose track of all the potential candidates. I somehow was not aware he was thinking of running. But as he implies in the article below, it should probably be assumed that almost every Senate Democrat is running this time, unless and until they explicitly state otherwise.
Chris Murphy rules out 2020 presidential run

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., won’t be a candidate for president in 2020, he said Wednesday.
The Democrat from Connecticut had been considered a possible contender in what is likely to be a crowded primary for his party.

“Let me be 100% clear,” Murphy tweeted. “I’m not running in 2020. I love the job I have now.” Some of Murphy’s colleagues in the Senate have already entered the race or launched exploratory committees, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. Others are expected to make announcements in the coming months.

“At least 2 or 3 Democrats in the Senate need to stay behind to keep the fight going here!” Murphy said.
Anyway, Senator Chris Murphy is out.

It appears that Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is considering a run for president - which is not unexpected. But now rather than running as a Democrat, as anticipated, he is now talking about running as a third party candidate.

Quote:
Why Starbucks' Howard Schultz might have a shot at the White House

The Washington Post recently reported that Howard Schultz, the former CEO and chairman of Starbucks, is seriously mulling a presidential run as a third-party candidate.

That the former coffee executive is considering an afterlife in politics is not new news -- his name has been bandied about on numerous lists of high-profile corporate and celebrity outsiders who might take on Donald Trump in 2020 -- but up until now, much of that speculation assumed that Schultz would run as a Democrat.
It is hard to believe he is so delusional as to believe he could actually win as a third party candidate. Of course he is thinking about taking this route because it has apparently dawned on him that he would not win the nomination for the Democrats if he decided to run as one.

If he does run, he will siphon off votes from whoever the nominee for the Democrats is. This would be great news for Trump. Will he do it? I suspect not, but this is going to be a crazy contest on the Democrat side. So who knows.
