While I don't disagree with his assessment of the situation, it's still all talk ... until it isn't.

I am pretty sure that Mr. Rove would concur with your assessment at this point, still 10 months out from the election.

No backup for your allegation that I'm not a liberal Democrat?

Julian Castro is out.
Julian Castro Ends Presidential Campaign: One Day We'll Win

Julián Castro, the former housing secretary under President Obama, said in a video released Thursday that he would end his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"I’m so proud of the campaign we’ve run together. We’ve shaped the conversation on so many important issues in this race, stood up for the most vulnerable people, and given a voice to those who are often forgotten," Castro said in a four-minute message released by his campaign.

"But with only a month until the Iowa caucuses and given the circumstances of this campaign season, I've determined that it simply isn’t our time," he said. "Today it’s with a heavy heart, and profound gratitude, that I will suspend my campaign for president."

So with this Biden pretty clearly appears to be trying to turn to the right. Apparently he is giving up on the possibility of outflanking the extreme left Sanders and Warren from the left, or on the possibility of chipping away some of their supporters in the primaries.
That MIGHT be a good strategy for him. I know that there are PLENTY of Republicans/conservatives who didn't want Trump and still find him very difficult to tolerate.

You actually could be right. Biden will have to determine if he would benefit more from any additional support he would get from moderates and independents, vs the support he would forfeit from the hard left by making this choice.

However, at the end of the day, it seems unlikely that he actually does this. This is probably just lip service.

Meanwhile, four Republicans are apparently already looking ahead to 2024. These include:
  • Vice President Mike Pence,
  • Former Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley,
  • Former CIA Director and current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and
  • 2016 Republican presidential nominee runner-up Senator Ted Cruz
Pack of top Republicans already looking past Trump to eye 2024 GOP nomination
