Jones has a better shot of winning his race than Gardner does his, but with that said unless Moore runs or the GOP nominates someone like him the GOP will likely pick up the seat.

Incumbent advantage and not ticking off your constituents don't count for anything anymore? That's sad if you're right

He won by less than 2 points in the 2014 wave. If Hickenlooper gives up the ghost on a Presidential run and chooses to contest the Senate race, Gardner will lose by a wide margin. A Dem to the left of Hickenlooper would still win but not with as big of a margin.
I agree with this.
The conventional wisdom here in CO says that Cory has no chance in 2020.
He is considered so useless at this point that a crash-test dummy would probably beat him.

That being said, CO voters can be somewhat contrary so I wouldn't count him out just yet but, with this endorsement, he's clearly laying the groundwork for some sort of national embrace from the far right.

If nothing else, it may help with campaign funding, particularly if he's primaried.

Well that is part of it no question about it, but so are the politics of the state. While I think it is certainly possible for Jones to retain his seat, I think the GOP would be favored to win it unless if the they screws up the Primary again.

"Hillary Clinton won Colorado by 5 percentage points in 2016, and Democrats swept every statewide race there in 2018 in what was widely seen as a rebuke to Trump."

Has Gardner already conceded his reelection bid in 2020? I honestly don't understand why he did this. Hillary won Colorado and Republicans got destroyed in the midterms plus the national party is associated with marijuana prohibition. You think to win over a blue electorate he would try to move to the center, but now he's endorsed Trump's reelection and has voted for all his cabinet and judicial nominees. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Wouldn't be surprised if campaign donors abandon him as he quickly becomes seen as a dead man walking.
Winning back the Senate isn't getting "destroyed."

I said that purely in regards to the state of Colorado. Republucans lost the governor’s race in a landslide, lost all the other statewide offices, lost their majority in the State Senafe, lost 5 more members in an already Democratic-majority House, and lost a Congressional district they’d held sinxe 1982 in a landslids.

I honestly believe Gardner has given up on re-election. This Denver Post article is one of the most brutal I’ve ever seen.

The Denver Post burned a lot of bridges when they endorsed him over Mark Udall.

While I am glad that they’ve finally admitted it was a mistake, the damage to their reputation is done.

Also, as is pointed out below, the editorial board that composed this mea culpa is not the board that originally endorsed him.
And no explanation yet forthcoming as to how/why that travesty was perpetrated.

As I’ve noted before, Colorado voters can be unpredictable, so I won’t believe he’s really done until I see the election results next November.

Gardner has given up on his re-election. I've theorized this for a while because he hasn't had a single poll in his favor for years. I doubt the national GOP is still giving him money. This just puts the icing on the cake and is a big F U to Colorado voters. Colorado voted against Trump in 2016 and then went hard blue in 2018. He's the only statewide GOP officeholder left but definitely not for long.
