Actually this is a great strategy. This will be his last chance at doing this. Might as well go out with a bang. Let these establishment Republicans AND Democrats learn they can't hold voters hostage and we have choices. You see what the Obama effect has had on the Democratic party. They are running every candidate they can on identity politics. Trump was independent as well but ran as a Republican because that's what would secure the win. Hey Sanders people: let Bernie run as an independent to siphon votes from BOTH parties. Dems and Republicans need to learn they can't use their old tricks with younger generations. If Bernie can break ground as an independent, it will open the door for future elections to be based on ISSUES which is what we all need. So sick of all these idiots in Washington who'd rather die married to their old, loser strategies than change.

I would place a bet right now that Bernie will be the democratic presidential nominee for 2020.

I'm not sure the Party will allow him to run as a Democrat this time around. I do believe they feel like he hurt Hillary's campaign.

But if they don't they risk him running as an Independent and hurting them even more.
Quite the quandary for the Libs when they really want a minority.

He will, mainly because Americans are brainwashed by corporate power.

Without interference from Debbie Blabbermouth-Schultz and others Bernie may have won the Democratic nomination in '16 but he would have gotten trounced by Trump. There are too many Americans alive today that vote on a regular basis and know what a terrible system socialism is that Sanders would not have gotten elected. The Democrat Party has gone so far to the left they are chasing their own base away. Pretty bad when Pelosi & Schumer look like moderates in comparison to the new bloods in their party.

This time around Sanders wont come close to winning the nomination. Kamala Harris, I believe, will come closer to winning but I think another candidate will rise to the top to win the nomination. I do see her as a potential VP selection to get the female and people of color votes. (How controversial of me to say, I know.) Until we know the full field it's impossible to speculate which one that will be. And no, it wont be Cory Booker.

What do you all really see in Sanders, Sanders is dumb as a doorknob, no policy knowledge, whatsoever! Is Sanders saying things you want to hear?

sanders appeals to the growing number of socialists in America, has high name recognition, and could bring out young voters and white working class voters in the rust belt. Bernie also appeals to American voters who would gleefully vote for Bernie because he advocates others pay for the free stuff those voters want.

sanders intelligence isn't important. what is important is can he win. as of today, I think bernie is the best chance the democrats have to beat trump in 2020.

Socialism does work. Even in the eastern bloc states.

Besides Poland and Romania, all want to go back to like it was before (as polls show). There was less market choice but more security and freedom from pain/suffering. People looked out for one another.

Now that there is no trading bloc, the last of those socialist states, Cuba, has no trading partner to sell their agricultural goods and keep an economy going, that’s it.

I’m not a Marxist like these countries, but socialism is varied. There are small government democracies like the Zapatistas that are socialist, and many other more free forms of socialism that will be popular in the western US.

Industrialism is the cause of less freedom, not the political system. Even back in the 16th century, women were more free and equal to men than in the 19th century (!!).
