People like this guy hates the US because they hate the people who laid the foundation and stepping stones for what we are today. So to correct this, it is the goal to just wipe it out, undermine the legitimacy the history of the US, make it a footnote somewhere.
They want a "new USA" with the year starting....at some point, and put those in the past as if talking about some past country that use to exist and we all "rose from the ashes" of such a country.
But they are going to push more, far more than just this. The goal is to remove and replace the institutions of the US, as that is the only true way to rid of the "old USA" and replace with a "new USA".
At that, go to Jefferson's Monticello, they all but replaced him there. They hardly ever mention him, but they make sure to mention the slaves every five seconds.
Listen to the interview. Even Buttigieg acknowledges that Jefferson thought slavery was wrong.

To Jefferson, it was anti-democratic and contrary to the principles of the American Revolution for the federal government to enact abolition or for only a few planters to free their slaves.8
Thomas Jefferson wrote that “all men are created equal,” and yet enslaved more than six-hundred people over the course of his life. Although he made some legislative attempts against slavery and at times bemoaned its existence, he also profited directly from the institution of slavery and wrote that he suspected black people to be inferior to white people in his Notes on the State of Virginia.
Perhaps you should read his biography. You may disagree with is opinions but, he is certainly no idiot.
