Jokes. Blather.
Politics matter. It is what ties us together. Not culture.
Our system is designed to temper power. It should handle Watergate. Nixon henchmen are responsible and he might be responsible, not all Republicans or all politicians. I am a politician and proud of it.
Congress hasn't done its job generally. I'll do better.
Facts are power. The only real power.
Need campaign finance reform. I've tried to stay unbeholden and transparent even though it cost me money and chances to win. I helped get the conversation about public financing of federal elections.
35 minute speech. Nothing on racial issues.
Questions
On other things for 20 minutes.
In final 4 minutes, he makes one paragraph length statement that was highlighted about the two party system. I didn't hear of any the other more important but still only paragraph length quote. If he made the other statements about slavery and reparations, etc. it was not on the official City Club tape I heard. Maybe it was after the official event. Or...who knows. This absolutely was not a "lecture" about racial issues. It got maybe 20-30 seconds of attention.
If a tape of him saying stuff about slavery and reparations exists, I would find it hard to believe it is not now already available. Unless... maybe somebody deleted it and / or someone is saving it for later.
Do you have Biden on tape talking about slavery and reparations? Where exactly? Please give it exactly. It is not in the City Club released speech I heard. If you claim otherwise give the exact time on the tape.
Your earlier post in this thread about Biden's quote about on the two party system in the South is on the tape but not the paragraph on slavery & reparations.
In the Breitbart article directly about the speech this paragraph about slavery and reparations is not mentioned at all.
In this other story https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2...at-good-negro/
it is mentioned as being quoted in a book but I can't yet see what the source event was for that particular quote. I'll assume it is an accurate quote unless & until I find otherwise or it is denied but it is not on the tape.
I feel like your pushing for people to click the link, this is becoming more common here. Are these right wing sites struggling so much that they have to run fake post to advertise their site?
You are wise to be choosy about which links you click on.
This is labeled as being about 'what-is-good-for-the-negro' but if you listen to it it is barely mentioned.
If you actually listen to it. None of the other Breitbart clips I listened to (and I tried to listen to all I found) did.
When you google: biden what is good for the negro https://www.google.com/search?client...+for+the+negro
there is absolutely nothing there (to my knowledge so far) that has audio of him saying the paragraph about slavery and reparations.
Again, I am not in a position to say he didn't say it; but it is not on any tape I've found yet.
They have someone saying he said it in a book. They have another quote on tape that is really weak, almost indecipherable and meaningless. Those pushing this story might want it to seem they have him saying this other more inflammatory paragraph on tape but until I hear it on tape I am not convinced it exists on tape.
The tape I listened to based on a quote of breitbart.com was from this page https://dmlnews.com/report-full-audi...e-1973-speech/
To my repeated listen, it doesn't have the paragraph about slavery and reparations.
So apparently no tape on slavery or reparations. Any claiming it was on released Cleveland City Club speech tape are wrong. If you weren't claiming that it was on tape, good. Because it wasn't. If I misunderstood how the two things fit together, I've resolved that at considerable effort. But it sure seemed run together as being in the Cleveland speech by most of the sources and those pushing the story here. Probably on purpose by some, by some not knowing.
biden does say "negro" but, as i already directly quoted in this thread, it was the phrase that was used in the question he was answering.
Yes the question uses the term and Biden does just in passing. And Biden hardly says anything in that quote of any meaning.
If you were shocked by his use of the term you probably weren't alive then or listening to politics.
But again no talk of slavery & reparations in this speech.
And, again, his "lecture" to Cleveland ran 20-30 seconds and only in response to a question. Calling it a lecture was ridiculous exaggeration or falsehood. He was invited and mainly talked Watergate and political ethics. To call it the "What's Good for the Negro" speech is ridiculous spin.
