Interesting story and data from Gallup. Very high enthusiasm to vote from both sides.

Dems are significantly more excited about voting to get rid of Trump than they were to vote for Obama in 2008. Republicans are about as excited as they were for Bush in ‘04.

Also interesting to note that enthusiasm does not equal a win as there was a significant enthusiasm gap between Ds and Rs in Obama’s second term, but he still won.

On the ground, voter enthusiasm is super high. This isn’t going to be a high turn out year. This is going to be a super super high turn out year. Trump campaign operatives were panicked in their reports to HQ. Get ready for a wild ride...

Funny think is, mail-in ballots might save the day for Trump. How many tens of thousands of mail ballots will be tossed due to technicalities like signature doesn't match or the wrong return envelope was used.

In general, Dems want more people to vote. Republicans try to make it harder for people to vote.

They sure are, if the long lines of people already voting is any indication.
Registrations are up as well.

Saw this while reading about the record early voting turnouts in Texas:

“AUSTIN – A record 16.9 million Texans are registered to vote in the Nov. 3 election, according to new data from the Texas secretary of state’s office.
...
The number grew by nearly 300,000 from two weeks ago, the last time the agency reported registration figures.”

Similar reports in other states as well.

I'm not all that interested in making it harder for people to vote... I would however prefer that Democrats aren't in charge of any hand recounts.

The 2004 Washington gubernatorial election on November 2, 2004 gained national attention for its legal twists and extremely close finish. In what was notable for being among the closest political races in United States election history, Republican Dino Rossi was declared the winner in the initial automated count and again in the subsequent automated recount. It was not until after the third count, a second recount done by hand, that Christine Gregoire, a Democrat, took the lead by a margin of 129 votes.

Just sayin'.

Eh. I knew one of you would chime in with something like this.

Republicans consistently pass legislation that shortens voting windows or they block legislation that removes access to easier voting under the guise of voter fraud.

There is a reason that people in Democratic areas of Georgia are having to wait in line for 8 hours to vote this week. It has nothing to do with protecting the security of the election.

There is a reason that Texas’s governor wants only one ballot drop box per county, regardless of the county’s population. It has nothing to do with protecting the security of the election.

Shall I go on?

Good, so we can put this enthusiasm gap thing to bed finally. The largest enthusiasm margin was in 2012 (+13 for Romney) and he lost by 5M votes and over 100 EV. The other years, the correlation is really weak. This seems like a pointless metric.
