The political times, however, could be changing. A study released this week by the Barna Group, a Christian research and consulting firm based in Ventura, Calif., finds that Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, currently enjoys the support of more faith-driven voters, including Christians, than his Republican rival.

he also leads among nonevangelical, born-again Christians (43 to 31), Christians who are neither born-again nor evangelical (44 to 28), Catholics (39 to 29), and Protestants (43 to 34). "If the current preferences stand pat," says Barna, "this would mark the first time in more than two decades that the born-again vote has swung toward the Democratic candidate."

About time. Thanks for posting the info.

Religious voters got used and abused by the GOP, especially the fundies. Finally the bulk of the sane worshippers see the light. Fundies are a lost cause; their snarling hate-filled diatribes will only end when we get a Dem in the white house.

Hopefully, with a Dem in the white house, religion can "go local," similar to the "eat local" and "buy local" movements, i.e., mainstream religion needs to get back to working in their local communities, ministering to the needs of local parishioners, and staying the hell out of national politics - where they do NOT belong.

Let's just wait and see when the electorate gets a whiff of obama support for infanticide. I would think he'd be done with this demographic.

When (if) his belief in infanticide gets out, he should lose the entire human demographic. The man is heartless and down right scary. I have a really hard time believing this study. I don't think Christians have lost their way in 4 years. Supporting a man who not only supports abortion, but the disposal of live infants if they are not wanted? A man who supports Palestinians and will not stand behind Israel. A man who only joined a church because he was told he had to if he wanted to be a successful community organizer in Chicago? Sad, sad, sad

You've been misled about why Obama voted against the Induced Birth Infant Liability Act in Illinois in 2001. He voted against it because its language was unconstitutional.

Please look up this information at its source, the Illinois Senate, and always check whether your sources might be pushing a political agenda.

But in case there is any ambiguity, the federal bill was identical, word for word, to the bill that Obama voted to kill two years later in the Illinois senate health committee, which he chaired. Obama’s work to kill the bill in 2003 has always been attested to by witnesses (committee records are poorly kept in Springfield), but yesterday the National Right to Life Committee found and revealed the document showing definitively that Obama had voted against it in committee — against the exact same bill he is now falsely claiming on his own campaign website that he would have supported.

The documents prove that in March 2003, state Senator Obama, then the chairman of the Illinois state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, presided over a committee meeting in which the “neutrality clause” (copied verbatim from the federal bill) was added to the state BAIPA, with Obama voting in support of adding the revision. Yet, immediately afterwards, Obama led the committee Democrats in voting against the amended bill, and it was killed, 6-4.
Sorry delu; it is clear the verbage was in the bill to protect Roe. He voted for that then killed the bill in his committee. He's a friggin monster.

Yes it is heartening. Many religious voters are moving beyond abortion and gays to look at other important issues that Jesus would care about. Poverty, the environment, the deadly effects of War on the innocent.

Definitely a nice trend to see.

Sure, Jesus would want to be known as the "abortion savior".
