When I moved to Florida in 2007, Crist was Governor. So you now have one incombent running against another incombent. Both have records as Governor to compare to. All Florida voters living in the state for that amount of time can compare the two as Governors, and make their decisions.
Do you people in other states even know that Crist is a former Governor of Florida? He was defeated in his re-election by Rick Scott. Maybe this time will be the charm after two Republican Governors? Good luck to my family and friends still in Florida.

We’re not interested in a Democrat governor. We saw how that worked out during COVID.

Crist didn't get defeated for reelection by Scott, at least not while Crist was governor.
Crist was popular moderate Republican governor with a high approval rating. Rather than run for a 2nd term as governor, he decided to run for a US Senate seat which opened when the incumbent senator resigned. Rubio came out of nowhere and defeated Crist in the GOP primary for the senate seat. Crist switched parties and ran as an independent for that US Senate seat in the general election. Rubio won the general election. This was 2010.
In the mean time, Rick Scott won his 1st term as Gov of Florida that same election(2010), since Crist chose to run Senator instead of 2nd term for FL Gov that year. Crist and Scott didn't face each other until 2014 when Scott ran for a 2nd term. By then Crist was out of politics for 4 years, after losing the senate election.
Crist switched parties and became a Democrat when he ran against Rick Scott in 2014 for Gov of Florida. Scott was the incumbent and Crist was a former governor. It was a close race and Scott won by a close margin.
A few years later Crist(D) ran for a US House seat and won 3x (held the seat for 3 terms). I think that US House seat got redistricted for 2022 and now leans R due to the redistricting. Crist chose not to run for the house seat again for 2022, and is running for Governor again in 2022. This time against DeSantis.
Crist wasn't a popular governor. In 2010 his poll numbers were so low that he couldn't beat the newcomer Rubio in the party's primary for U.S. Senate and left the party. You know you have problems that you as a sitting governor you are losing to an unknown guy by 30% average in the polls and then actually loses in the general as an independent by 19%. As a sitting governor.
The problem with Crist is that he flips flops so much you don't know what he stands for. It seems all he wants to do is win as a Republican, Independent or Democrat. He was for McCain and his policies then he switched to Obama's policies. The guy is all over the place.
Smug DeSantis might of overplayed his hand we will see.
The only smug and arrogant here is Crist that said that anybody that voted for DeSantins that he doesn't want their vote. Toxic stuff for an opportunist that wants to be governor in whatever party and will say and change whatever to get to power.
Charlie Crist has managed to lose as a Republican, as an Independent and as a Democrat.
Charlie Crist also won as a Republican and as a Democrat. Not many people can say that.
