In fairness, it was the first time that 81 million people were dumb enough to vote for a guy who campaigned from his basement to hide his cognitive issues.

His voters found a candidate they could relate to.

Oh good, voter police keeping people from voting until some partisan entity decides that enough information is available to favor their candidate. Debates are not a campaign requirement under law. There are probably 20 elected positions being contested on a ballot. So, what if there is a mayoral debate and a sheriff debate and a school board debate and a prosecutor debate or dog catcher debate? Just make it required that all debates are over four weeks before the election if you are worried that I might make my choice before your guy performs in front of a camera.

It would be easier to make a law that says all debates must be scheduled during the 2 weeks before early voting starts.

Why? Who cares when the debates occur? The debate dates are generally known before early voting starts. If a voter is worried about having the latest information, the can just avoid voting before the debate.

There a constitutional requirement for allowing early voting in the state of Michigan. It was put there in 2018 by a voter referendum.

Voting is mostly a state matter, the feds get involved when state voting laws violate civil rights guaranteed by the US Constitution.

The solution to this is to get to know everything you can about the candidate before you vote, even if a debate has not yet happened. or, do like me, vote 100% Republican, because i know 100% that i want zero Democrats to win.

And if a candidate refuses to participate in an early debate, then what? Said candidate gets removed from the ballot?

Precisely.

This entire premise seems like a solution in search of a problem to me.

It's only an issue in states that they lost.
