Big deal, so he said Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald. At least he is still young, has all his mental facilities, is cancer free, and knows the difference between Shiite and Sunni.
I know, how scary. McCain has had "senior moments" on the stump already and he is not even President with a mountain of stress on him.
Obama apparently has "senior moments" and he's not even a senior!
I expect to hear more about Obama's great-uncle in the next few days. The internets are blazing with the history buffs verifying his life story. I guess this is what Hillary meant by the "vetting" process.
I found this on another board (Here: History Channel: Barack's War Torn Uncle ... (http://boards.historychannel.com/thread.jspa?threadID=510002550&start=0 - broken link)
Then, further down, there is this great little tidbit:
Too funny!
Just a historical note. My uncle went to the recruiter on the day after Pearl harbor and "signed up", but was not called for 9 months, so his enlistment date is when he entered, not when he signed up at the recruiter, but they always said, he went the day after Pearl Harbor to offer to fight. So, tidbit may be mere semantics.

I'm sure the media is going to jump on these issues and will look at the actual records or contact people who would have facts.
But, so far, the facts point towards Obama fabricating at least part of this.
We will see. Not defending or affirming the tidbit here. Just giving a perspective on it.
From Fox News...
“Senator Obama’s family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II — especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement. “Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically.”
The campaign said his great uncle, Charlie Payne, served in the 89th Infantry Division, and that the unit was among those to liberate Ohrdruf on April 4, 1945.

There are plenty of records from WWII available, not to mention the fact that Obama's "Charlie Payne" is still alive. So I imagine it won't be that hard to check out.
What's even more curious is the fact he said his grandfather rushed out and signed up for service the day after Pearl Harbor -- and his actual enlistment date was a looooooonnnng time after that.

Well, you posted this before -- but the historical records don't show that this happened. There were many "Charles Payne" who signed up for service but most were in the NAVY.
Obama's great uncle's name was "Charles W. Payne" and a Charles W. Payne did enlist -- but in the NAVY. An Infantry division of the Army liberated Ohrdruf. Did they call in the Navy for help?
