Now as many folks know, McCain's views on our very unpopular war are quite well known and is subsequently attacked with a fair amount of frequency. However, being that our economic well being is likely to be the primary issue in the general election, I thought I would post this clip to give a basic idea of McCain's knowledge and grasp of economics. Yes it is a drive by hit piece of sorts, but it is only so in that these are his own words during some of the debates.
After 7 years of Bush, I admit I have become used to listening to Elmer Fudd stutter along, but in this case, it is the glazed over, hollow stare he gets when asked about economic issues that I find troubling.
In all fairness, I would be curious to see some short clips or excerpts from the Obama side as an order of comparison.
The only way I could really consider voting for McCain and not Bob Barr or Ron Paul, is if he picks Mitt Romney as his veep. This would help him immensely on the economy.
Of course, knowing McCain, he will probably live up to his "maverick" label and pick someone like Huckabee or Condi Rice.
OMFG this is his grasp of Economics? Tax cuts? and then he rattles off a bunch of Lobbyists? His Treasury Secretary?.....and the right thinks this man is going to WIN?

Well the problem I have with this reminds me of back in 2000 when I voted for Bush. I figured, ok, the guy is a rube, but he is surrounded with a fairly sharp crew, and they were. However, the direction this crew took was at complete odds with my views and we are where we are today.
McCain could very well choose a knowledge and well versed economic adviser but considering McCain's tendency towards a military like chain of command, how much credence would be given to this person by McCain if they were at odds? Would he pull a Bush and just fire everyone who disagreed with him, would he take the council of those he disagreed with? I'm not sure, but all things considered, McCain openly admitting he needs help getting his mind around economic issues is for me a bit troubling.
I just remembered this one from my favorites collection.
This is Ron Paul asking John McCain about the "President's Working Group on Financial Markets" or as more commonly known as the "Plunge Protection Team" that works to avert financial crisis.
Note how McCain does the Potomac two step and dances around around trying to stall long enough to stutter his way through something that he clearly has no concept, no understanding and no idea of what the heck Paul is even talking about. Is this the kind of leadership we want during these times of economic crisis?
McCain speaking about economic issues reminds me of this ... such as, you know.... like such as
I'm a character and judgment voter. McCain talks about de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America". If he made it through that tome, I'm pretty sure he can get a handle on economics pretty quick... You can understand just about everything that's important to a CEO in one class and I think we'll see him shine during the debates... If not, I hope Mitt's and Greenspan's on the payroll with him

But my new favorite was posted on Drudge today. It's an amazing sociopolitical comment on the farce being perpetrated on Capitol Hill. Why Americans aren't more outraged at this is beyond me.

Well despite my desires for lofty idealism, I also happen to be reasonably grounded by reality and the brutal practicality that accompanies it.
McCain is a mumbling 72 year old man who is struggling to maintain his own faculties on a daily basis. By the time he learns how to put an attachment on an email, he is likely to be wearing adult diapers, let alone the time it would take to get a good grasp of macro economics and global economic relationships. Considering his many years as a seasoned elected official and this being his second run for the Presidency, he has also had a lot of practice and yet still, this is as good as it gets.

Well you can risk voting McCain who is already in poor health and in mental decline and likely succeeded by the church of Palintology or vote Obama and have Ahmadinejad over for dinner while discussing America's evolution into a European style socialist economy.
Saddest part is that when troubling economic times were discussed this time last year, the consensus was... "stop crying chicken little". Today, I watched the faces of some of the most powerful economic guru's on earth, wrinkle with the fear that they have no idea how bad things are really going to get, bail out or no bail out.
While I don't suspect Obama has a very sound grasp of economics either, that isn't the topic of this particular discussion. So lets try and remain on topic.
