CHICAGO - Barack Obama celebrated Father's Day by calling on black fathers, who he said are "missing from too many lives and too many homes," to become active in raising their children.
"They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it," the Democratic presidential candidate said Sunday at a largely black church in his hometown
Bill Cosby has been saying this for years. No one listens.
Exactly! But of course such utterances and thoughts are not politically correct. We are so mired in PC and race issues that plain common sense responsibility has lost out. Very sad, sad indeed for all concerned.
Watching this, it struck me that a race for the presidency is just part of the beginning of Obama's career. Barack is destined to be influential. He will be a catalyst for change no matter what office he holds.

I was happy to hear this story, I think that absent fathers and especially black fathers is a very big problem in today's society. The more positive role models that are visable to young black males, the better, and the more hope I have that this trend will not continue. A strong foundation is so important to the lives of young people and especially when there is so much negative influence in many of these young people's lives. Fathers must stand up for their children and their families
He couldn't have picked a better subject. Even if color was not a factor, I can't imagine any other candidate or president addressing a specific value like this. Good for him! Even if it doesn't take effect, it is indeed heartwarming and HOPEFUL to hear from a candidate who addresses an important problemmatic topic. It's one step toward positive change.
wonder what would have happened if john mccain made this statement. he would have been kicked out of the presidential race and forced to step down from his senate seat. got to love those double standards.
