What? I though McCain was trying to win Florida and maybe swing California, this is not the best way to go about that.

McCain's energy policies are shortsighted at best, however it is in keeping with his gas tax holiday proposal, so at least he is becoming more consistent.

Increased production of oils is actually a very long term goal!

This was two years ago - before gas prices got so high. Don't think this will hurt him in Florida.

State: Poll says Floridians selfish on oil drilling

"Skyrocketing fuel prices combined with continued unrest in the Middle East is prompting a surprising political shift in Florida, according to a St. Petersburg Times poll: More Floridians support offshore drilling than oppose it."

This is the short to medium term plan by McCain....Nucleur and research into renewables is the long-term.

Maybe, if we want to continue being controlled by the oil companies. I would hope that we have learned some kind of lesson from what we are going thru now. The way to energy indepenence is from new technologies, and until then we are going have to find a way to sleep in the beds that we have made for ourselves.

So what industry would you like to control us next?

Those oil companies are making me a lot of money. Sorry not everyone is buying it that the oil companies are evil price gougers.

I don't have a problem with oil companies making money, I do have a problem with us as American consumers not having any other options about where we can get our energy from. For that reason, we are controlled by the oil companies. If we have successfully figured out how to make cars run off of hydrogen and natural gas and every new house is built with solar panels and windmills are utilized in the plains, then by all means, let the oil companies try to compete and see how that works out.

I see this as shortsighed because as soon as we drill, gas gets cheap, people forget and then we are right back here in 10-20-30 years wondering what the heck can we do to make gas more affordable for the average consumer.

Local drilling is a short-sighted short-term solution, with huge downsides. The real solution, as noted above, is the development and implementation of new technologies to power cars and produce electricity. Until that happens we will continue to find the Middle East a lot more important than it really deserves.

It's hilarious to watch the political pandering for what still amounts to dirt cheap gas. Given that McCain's segment of voters is middle class to upper middle class America, it's even funnier that these voters would be cash strapped for said cheap gas.

Which candidate will play Santa Claus best?
