I am beginning to think we as a society are forgetting that survival of the species is dependent on adaptation which is the nature of intelligence. We want leaders who are able to adapt and change as our rapidly developing world does. Don't slam anyone who didn't want to drill when gas was $2.80 and does when it hits $4.35. Expect position changes as circumstances change it is inevitable and part of what makes man human. Most of us would agree that it was the inability of the current administration to adapt in Iraq that create so many problems. We want leaders who are willing to be intelligent and make a decision based on today and tomorrow and not yesterday. Both candidates should be allowed to use their intelligence and that of their advisers for problems as they are today and tomorrow not as they were yesterday.
We are becoming flip flop crazy and China is becoming innovative , adaptive and flexible.
Mostly spin for lack of looking and planning head is how I see it.China seesm to be more like america post WWII i it peole taking charge of their lifes. This country seesm to be looking more towards personal satisfaction. Eduaction wise the chinese want to be egineers and scientist and much of the american population want to be movie stars and suddenly rich.That is why china and other countries are doing a better job in educating their population for the future . Once peole get older they realise they are not going to be suddenly rich and they then want governamnt to support them i their person failure.I think anybody that thinks the chinese governmant puts their peole first needs to open their eyes to waht chna has done to surpress their peole in any political movement of personal freedom.Look at just the execution of politcal disadents and imprisonment for political beliefs.

TORONTO, Oct. 11 - Upset over persistent American tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber, Canadian leaders are warning the Bush administration that it is risking secure access to Canadian oil supplies.
In recent days Canada has begun playing a newly minted China card, suggesting in a series of subtle threats that it was willing to satisfy China's growing appetite for Canadian oil and wood that would otherwise go south to the United States.
The trade conflict has been growing worse ever since August, when the Bush administration refused to obey a direction from a special North American Free Trade Agreement panel to refund $5 billion in tariffs collected from Canadian softwood lumber exporters.
"If Nafta is called into question by U.S. action, it calls for us to diversify our trade and investment relations," said Acting Natural Resources Minister John McCallum in a telephone interview on Tuesday, only moments before he left for China to meet with oil, mining and forestry officials.
"On the Chinese side I am sure there will be receptivity," he added.
The state visit of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Beijing in late August highlighted China’s expanding relations in Latin America, which are heightening tensions with the US.
For Chavez, closer ties with China are a counterweight against the open hostility of Washington. Venezuela is to expand oil exports to supply China’s rapidly growing energy needs in return for political backing and economic aid.
“China is one of the world’s largest consumers [of oil] and Venezuela is one of the biggest [oil] producers, so we complement each other completely,” Chavez declared on arrival in Beijing. He called for a “strategic alliance” with China to foster a “multi-polar” world and to challenge the “hegemony” of the United States.

You are right on target. We are the Britain of the 20th century and China is on their way to being the nation of the 21st century. They can already shoot down our satellites and with their population and high end university advantage we can't compete with them with our lazy let somebody else take care of me mentality.

actually, FDR destroyed america. obama will finish the job. the problem with the US, is that there are no innovators anymore. take a look at the most popular majors in college right now. business administration, psychology, elementary education, english, communications, political science. where are the engineers? where are the chemists. oh that's right, they are all in india and china. I can't even believe that elementary education is a major. it takes 4 years to learn how to teach kids to be the 18th smartest country in the world? the education system is a total joke.

You hit a core problem right on the head. Why are Pennsylvania State schools producing Elementary teachers who can't find jobs, when we need those seats for technocrats to help us compete.
