Romney had a clean record, but his opposition to Roe vs. Wade (after being pro-choice) and illegal immigration (while illegal immigrants cleaned his house) put him in an awkward position.

Though he's still a better candidate than that Huckabee fool was. That guy would've been too easy for the Dems to pick apart.

Perhaps McCain/Romney this year losing by 1 state and then Romney/Jindal 2012 a large victory over the incumbent.

That Mormon issue was too much for him to overcome. Republicans will never have a Mormon candidate.

Why not? There are enough Republicans to cancel out the Bible Belt. I just think Romneys downfall was that he was relatively new to the political arena and his message did not catch on until after he had dropped out.

It is not the Mormon issue, it's more of the fact that Romney had "conversions" on key issues. Gun rights is one. Abortion is another one. Also he carries a "Massachusetts" tag on him and that is a state despise by the GOP in general.

Romney may be a good VP pick, but not for the top job on the ticket.

Oh and if the Christian block of the GOP were/felt ignored or betrayed, they could stay home or go 3rd party and that would be a victory for a Fascist like Obama.

That would be worse than having Romney or any Mormon in the White House.

Even if some in Oklahoma (heart of Bible belt) voted for a 3rd party, it would still go Republican. There just are not enough Democrats in states like that to override the Republican majority.
