On a conference call just now with reporters, Rick Davis said that the campaign currently has over $26 million on hand, plus the RNC's over $67 million. The Obama fundraising machine is the vaunted machine it is purported to be. The weak link is the DNC. I posted the link the other day the RNC has 68 million and the DNC under 4 million. McCain in June did about 23 million and Obama about 53 million. Yes Obama=vaunted and DNC=inept. McCain=ok and RNC=very successful.

Your post is the exact reason why Obama turned down public financing so that he had a chance of matching McCain in combined funds.

Did private financing work better for him?

If he accepts public financing he would have to spend his current war chest by the time he gets the nomination and start at 0 and get the 85 million. This way he has war chest plus what he fund raises until the election. Public means 85 million max from nomination to election day. Private means whatever he can get. I posted another thread yesterday with the current totals for the candidates and their party funds. The Republicans combined were about 3 million ahead of the Democrats combined. They were both in the 90 plus million range. The DNC only had about 3.9 million of their total and the RNC had about 68 million of their total. Each total also includes congressional funds and once again the DNC is inept.

What happened to them both denouncing it? that didn't work out for them?

They were both suppose to unite who backed out of that one or what was the cause?

I was a little disappointed to see they still need that much money to campaign.

Obama realized he had to do it himself and do it alone because he couldn't count on the DNC. He would have gotten slaughtered money wise if he had taken public funding. The concept of is confusing to many as it only effects the candidates and not the party.

I agree.....that cash could be used for so many better things. Does it honestly take this long to determine who to vote for? They could get people to vote 200+ years ago without all of this cash. Why do they need so much now? It's like The Apprentice and America is Donald Trump. Who honestly gets a 6 month job interview?

Soon the president for the next four years will start running on the day of the previous president starts....Eventually it turns into a "I want my next four years paid for" running race....imagine being in control of billions and people willingly giving the candidates money hand over fist....I can't see that ending well with people being people and all...the internet makes it so much easier.

Maybe they'll make a reality show to pull in even more money.....soon it will be to NASCAR status...

This kind of over the top grandiosity happens when a narcissist cannot separate entertainment from reality. More circus "reality show" to come....
