The Bread and Peace model predicts Senator McCain will receive around 48% of the vote.

"Bread and Peace" model devised by Douglas Hibbs, a retired economics professor from the University of Goteborg in Sweden, who remains a senior fellow at the Center for Public Sector Research there.

The national vote does not matter. It is a state by state battle.

Because of the Electorial College, the President is elected on a state level and not by national vote totals. It is quite possible for a President to be elected by only 43% of the vote and one to lose with 55% of the vote. If a Candidate ran up huge lopsided vote totals in a few big states like NY, CA and IL and then lost by small amounts in most other states, they would lose. Basically there are probably about 17 states in play this election and that is where it will be won and and lost. The other 43 states are "safe" for one candidate or the other.

I predict about the same. I think people who think Obama will win in some kind of a landslide are living in a fantasy land. He will win but I think it'll be by 5-20 electoral votes.

The people who are predicting landslides on either sides are the same ones who were predicting gas would be at $5/gallon nationally by the end of the summer - don't know about the rest of the US but here the highest it got was $4.10

I agree. I am guessing he will win or lose by less than 10 EC votes.
