Most Americans are worse off today than in 1999. In terms of wealth, freedoms(lack of such)and health. As a nation we are also in far worse shape economically!

Inflation, depression, recession, poverty and war is what mr. Bush and the GOP brought us.
I want real change.

Obama is saying a lot of things in an attempt to look more centrist and moderate. He's a radical, far left liberal, considered to be the most liberal Senator in Congress. His voting record is more liberal than the admitted socialist, Sen. Bernie Sanders!

Obama also talks a lot about "Economic Justice". Code words for Windfall Profits taxes and Income Redistribution.

Post some statistics using respected numbers. You can use the BLS, GAO, etc. Then we'll talk. You are either uneducated or a Democrat.

Peace.

WRT being "better off" I assume you mean economically??? The markets and the inevitable business cycle has much more to do with the economy than any President.
No, by better off I mean in all aspects. Economy yes, but also our standing with the world, health care, the whole picture.

Long-term Welfare / dole is simply wrong!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I see people here on the Dole making £30k doing nothing and having everything paid for. I dont think that people in the states get benefits even close to this.

As far as Katrina, from what I could tell, the people who didnt leave couldnt afford to leave. They where stuck. Should there not be a safe haven if you can not afford to leave when disaster strikes? I am all for personal responsibiltiy but what about helping others out? What are people supposed to do if they have no home to go back to?

I guess I have been away for a long time. I am a bit shocked at how extreme people are. The amount of polar opposites is off putting. When I left we all seemed to be on the same page more, or so it seemed. Reading all the threads has really made me see how against each other Americans seem to be. Not even an agree to disagree. Not sure what to make of it. I am sure that it will all calm down after November, no matter who gets in. Living abroad has given me a completlely different perspective.

It is called deep denial! Maybe the rich don't think anything is wrong, but us middle class folk are hurtin' The Republicans need to WAKE UP and get in touch with their fellow Americans. It is a shame that they do not understand the struggle that most American's are going through. It will take 10 natural disasters, no more oil, 30% unemployment rate for them to look up into the sky and think "gee, somethings just not right!"

Yeah Americans are struggling to maintain the highest standard of living in the world. They are struggling with their $1000 laptops and $500 cell phones. They are struggling with $400,000 homes and credit card debt.

If you can't tell I don't think Americans are struggling as much as they would like to think. If life were so bad why are people all around the world moving into the US for a better life?

I think Americans are struggling with responsibility.

Why would you vote for McCain? Why would you not?

Play nice now, grown ups have no need for name calling and mudslinging.

Those are the people who have severe problems with memory loss. They have no clue what their own conditions were 8 years ago. They probably couldn't tell you much about last month.

Sounds like a narrow version of the world. Not every American has $1000 laptops, $500 cell phones (who pays that much for a phone anyways?) or a $400k mortgage. That is a big generalization.

Here is the other thing, not everyone around the world is beating down the door to get in. A lot of Americans are leaving, when they can, and starting new lives abroad.

What you wrote is a stereotype and generalization that doesnt fit everyone. America is not a one size fits all country. But it may be a bit more self-reflective then anything.

Some Americans get their view of the world outside their own skin from sources like Rush Limbaugh. The public schools have not been good at teaching critical thinking in recent decades.

If you believe that McCain is to blame then you really need to do some research.
The economy was growing like wild fire until 2006 when the democrats took office.
So, yes, I am far better off then I was under Clinton by a long shot.
