Obama said Sunday he will tap his huge political network of donors and volunteers to help U.S. victims of Hurricane Gustav after it comes inland.

"I think we can get tons of volunteers to travel down there, if it becomes necessary," Obama told reporters after attending St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Lima, Ohio.

"I think we can activate an e-mail list of a couple of million people who want to give back," he said. Donations could include cash, goods and individual labor.

Good to see Obama stepping up at a time of crisis, showing the kind of leadership Bush and McCain seemingly were unable to do during Katrina...I guess eating cake was more important.

Obama and his people will surely help this week, while McCain and the GOP attempt to use this pending disaster for their political benefit. Really though, the Republicans have always used tragedy, death and destruction to score political points...just look at 9/11 as a perfect example.

Default well said

well said Upton! Heh I remember when it was election time in 2004 with bush and Kerry... We had hurricane charley and Frances and bush came right on down, after it wasnt dangerous anymore to "show support". Psshh screw that he only came down to get a few pics snapped of him "caring" and then was back to playing some golf. Just like Mccain and his little chiuaua are going to be doing. Except this time it will be hunting something instead.. or eating some cake! Pathetic.

wasn't katrina on mccain's birthday, hence the cake? also, do you have a time stamp on the picture? I am guessing it was before the real crap hit the fan. I have no problem with people donating money to a disaster relief fund. I have a huge problem funding FEMA, which is a waste of money. here is a quote from you.

It was just Democrats blaming him. It was more because of his reaction not his action. He proclaimed competency when there was none. Just like flying in on the carrier and proclaiming victory in Iraq and then ooops. He showed indifference at first.

What did you expect, him to land in the middle of the eye? Perhaps Dumbo can do a hurrevac with his magic ears and carry stragglers out by the 1,000's?

Maybe we can call melting face to melt out a magic carpet from his face and carry everyone out too, or can stretchy vagina stretch out a boat too. Wanna play lower, cause I can too.

Sure tells you who the good person is here...the one with a heart! Of course Obama would help and use his money! He is a quality person! No greed in Obamas personality!
