Nothing I've heard has swayed me toward either party. Of the four people on the major tickets, I like Palin but not all of her politics. The rest I have no use for.
So it looks like I'll be going Libertarian. I'm not crazy about Bob Barr, given his own voting background, so I'll be voting less for Barr and more for the principles the Libertarian Party stands for.
The choices this time out are unbelievably miserable.
North Carolina hasn't gone to a Democrat since Carter. I honestly think you are going to see that pattern change here in 2008.
FWIW, I don't dislike McCain and I think he could do a decent job running this country. I just like Obama and his positions on the issues a little more.
I also don't really care much about the VP picks. However, I must admit it would be interesting to see Palin and Hillary go head to head for the presidency one day in the future.
I vote qualification and vision over party in my state and city elections. I haven't had the opportunity to vote for a Republican presidential candidate yet because one hasn't come along during the past 20 years that I felt was worth voting for.
I believe in civic and social responsibility and the Republican party simply is not a "people" oriented party. Its current agenda lies in building wealth and maintaining wealth for the wealthy while using the shrill voice of the Religious Extreme to boost its voting base. Because of this, the mainstream population has to suffer under an egregious dismissal of the Constitutional separation of Church and State, an outright assault on science and critical thinking, and personal ethics issues like abortion and Gay marriage clog up the information stream when truly important issues like the economy, sustainable energy and international relations take a back seat.
So yes, Obama for me, I’ve had enough of the Right and it’s sucking up to the rich and the religious fringe.
Amen. I have voted for Republicans as recently as two years ago. However, I have about had it with their party for the very reasons you outline above. They will not get my vote again in this lifetime--unless there are some real changes. McCain is promising the changes I want, but so did George Bush, and I didn't see them. He was such a disappointment. When he was governor of Texas, he worked across the aisle and compromised. Something happened when he got to Washington and worked with Karl Rove, Tom Delay, and Dick Cheney. He was hijacked by the far right. Will that also happen to McCain?
Up until McCain chose Palin as his running-mate I had no intentions on voting this year. I highly doubt either candidate will follow through on their promises. The only real difference will come with the Supreme Court nominations.
I've decided to vote for Obama for the sole reason that I dislike Palin. Anyone that wants to ban books is bad in my book.

That's interesting...I had no intention of voting for McCain until he selected Palin. No, I don't agree with her abortion stance at all, but at the same time, I think she's a dose of reality that is much needed in the D.C. area.
Also, some regard her as "stupid" which I don't think is fair, but on the flip side of the coin, maybe she is not "smart enough" to be afraid of the entrenched politicians and will actually go up against some of the corruption that exists right now. Anyways, the debate tonight will be interesting, and I don't have very high expectations for her, so maybe she'll suprise me and pull it off ok, we'll see.

I definitely agree with the last statement.
