Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called "October surprise" that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.
In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska's bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called "troopergate" investigation.

What does she have to hide if she didn't do anything wrong?

The guiltiest ones are the ones who WON'T allow the investigation. Maybe too much other stuff will come out. People won't care though. They are so obsessed with party that they will turn a blind eye.

The problem is the democrat partisan hack in charge. So far, at least 7 people have refused to testify - what kind of a conclusion can he come to without all the facts in evidence. She also requested the Office of Personnel open an investigation - which is where this case belongs. Did you see this guy on CNN? Pathetic and a candidate for going "postal". Tasered an 11-year old cause the kid was 'curious'. Threatened the life of her father. Shot a moose illegally. Drinking while in his squad car. Infidelity.

The CNN investigative reporter wondered aloud why this guy wanted to do an interview with his "record".

This topic is worn out, the trooper is pond scum and was interviewed and admitted he was wrong.

How many threads are you going to start after we have showed you this is a joke?

One more time, the trooper is guilty, the trooper is a drunk, the trooper beat his wife, the trooper tazed a 11 year old, the trooper threathen to kill Palins dad.

Do you really want to defend a man like this?

I think everybody agrees with you here however strong arming his boss to fire him is where the abuse in power comes from. When the boss refuses to fire him, she has him removed. That is the controversy...

Exactly. Why is this so hard to understand? "It's okay for a political leader to abuse power if the guy in question was a jerk" really isn't a very encouraging view.

The question is whether she abused her power--not whether her brother-in-law was a jerk.

Who the hell is defending the trooper? Read the story and get your facts straight before you post nonsense on here.

Like I said, if she didnt do anything wrong, there is nothing this legislator came come up with. But by trying to derail this, it makes her look guilty and for all we know the investigation could reveal some other wrong doing that no one has talked about yet.

I Agree. They need an independent or 3rd party, not a dem or repub, in charge of that investigation.

You gotta ask, WHY is this idiot still a trooper? Seems to me Palin was doing her job: she canned the Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, head of the troopers. He wasn't doing his job: IE: should have been reprimanding, or dismissing, this jerk. The good 'ol boys club is unfortunately still alive and well in Alaska, although Palin has made a good start at weeding them out of office.

Screwed up big-time on the job? Don't worry about that new reform gov.; 'cause you're one of us...we'll back you up! Hey...come on over to my patrol car for lunch...I got a case of beer! Afterwards, we'll go for a little spin...taser a few kids...

Ok, I'm being cynical, but there's a certain degree of truth there. These labor unions up here tend to be leftist leaning. (mine is)
Apparently it's now P.C. and "ok" to be a trooper and drink in your patrol car, taser a kid, make threats against your inlaws, etc. When and where does it all ever end? Who has even dared to TRY to straighten the mess out?

Palin
