Also I think the "faith healing"" aspect is interesting. Is it like Christian Science where you pray to cure atherosclerosis, instead of taking a pill?. Does she refuse blood transfusions like Jehovahs Witness??? many people do not understand, and it is relevant.
Christian Science is not the same as faith healing. They do not pray to God for healing since they do not believe the illness exists in the first place. They pray to raise a person's consciousness to a higher level of understanding. It's difficult to explain an entire religion in one paragraph, but I used to attend a Christian Science church.
You obviously don't know much about Christian Science. They do not pray to God for healing. They do not believe in illness and pray to raise the person's consciousness to a higher level of understanding.
No these are like Mormons Christians not Protestants or Catholics

I don't know...my friend was raised as a Christian Scientist and she and her family definitely pray for healing.

No, that's the way you understood it. They do pray for healing, not from the disease, but from their thought process. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, said that disease isn't real because God didn't make it. As I said, it's not easy to explain in a short description. They don't use medicine because they don't believe you can treat something that isn't from God. The prayer isn't "God, make the cancer go away" but more like to understand that you are a perfect child of God and He would never give you cancer because God only gives his children good things.
By the way, sorry for my original response. I think I edited out the "obviously you don't know very much" because it was rude of me. I've been to an awful lot of churches, even revival meetings where people faint. I was sick and tried just about everything. I believe that healing works, but you need to find peace within first.

OH wow that is really scary i mean we already have a war on science i really want to end that war but this a little over the top. this sounds like a cult not a religious group
all religions are freaking weird. muslim's don't eat pork, hindu's worship cows, it doesn't end. they all scare the crap out of me, however each is free to do as they wish. this situation is too much like reverend right. neither of them mean two craps to me.
Hindus do not worship cows. That's a common misunderstanding. Just because they feel they are sacred, doesn't mean they don't realize they're cows. They honor the cow because it provides milk and is gentle and unaggressive. They honor all living creatures. Again, like I wrote in an earlier post, it's not easy to describe any religion in a brief paragraph. But they do not worship the cow as God, they just don't butcher & eat them.

Not really. Our thoughts do control our bodies. I just took 2 Advil and something to sleep, so obviously my mind is still very much on the earthly level! LOL
However, often the way we think does cause our immune systems and our cells to react in strange ways that create disease. I agree with you that they get a little extreme, but most of the people are very intelligent and they're not kooks. If you really think about it, it makes sense that the Creator wouldn't make us suffer and that mankind has created all that is bad with the earth, including our own bodies. However, it was a little too strange for me. I had a friend when I was a child who had a disability that could have been cured, but his parents didn't take him to a doctor when he was born. He hated them for it and hated Christian Science. Wish it wasn't so time consuming to type, since I am leaving out so much. If a child is born with a problem, I was told that the parents had to change their thoughts. As I said, I wasn't raised in this religion at all. I was plagued with chronic headaches and facial pain and thought I could find help. I met some very nice people, but I left after about a year.
I agree and it really does depend on how closely she is still involved with the core beliefs of the AOG. I separated myself from it when I left home and maybe she did too. However some of the recent videos I've seen lately lead me to believe she hasn't. Either way, I feel that she should be the only one speaking about her beliefs. Why her pastor needs to do this on her behalf is beyond me. However, if she does still hold to the AOG beliefs then it would make sense that her pastor would speak for her.
As I understand it, the AOG church in Wasilla is her old church, and the pastor they are interviewing is her old pastor. Last I heard, she had left the AOG and is now attending a non-denominational church there. (all before this VP thing)
I personally would prefer not to care what religion or worldview an elected official/leader holds *personally,* as long as that person accepts that he or she governs with and for all sorts of people. It's tricky, because one's values might come from a religious worldview, and how can they be separated- should they be?
Palin's being a fundie concerns me because I don't she (or her group) could accept that they govern all sorts of people, including those of us who believe that believers are involved in an elaborate delusional system. I care if someone doesn't understand that he or she is sworn to the Constitution as elected, not the bible or any other personal worldview; that it *is* a worldview that seems real to the believer, but that many other people governed do not find it real, and that one governs everyone.
Somehow I doubt Palin is up to that task. Certainly a lot of her religious supporters don't even try.
Thanks for varied responses. I visited Mary Baker Eddy's grave in Mt Auburn[Cambridge], Mass. where I went to grad school. This is a good thread. I am not judging religion, but religion and POLITICS is a whole different animal.
I do think if a person is religious, and uses this in their speeches, its relevant.
